rowan and marceline stumble into the bathroom. it's 12:30 and the bathroom line shortened just in time for them to have to use it.they were still at the party and had been the life of it for the past 20 minutes but rowan had to pee and wherever rowan went, vice versa.. as it had been since the day the two decided to become friends in the bathroom of ethan's house weeks before.
marci struggled to close the bathroom door as greenlight by lorde muffled from the outside.
rowan stared at herself in the mirror silently. 'those great whites they have big teeth' slipped through the cracks where the door met the walls.
marci stood behind her, also looking blankly in the oval-shaped mirror. rowan glanced between herself and marci in the mirror before slowly turning around and whispering, "i forgot why we came in here." obviously not sober.
the pair fell into a fit of laughter only stopping with marceline wrapped her arms around rowan's neck and sputtered, "y- know a-a couple months ago.. this it- hm no. this is, yeah that's right.. how w-we became besties!"
'brand new sounds in my mind.'
she leaned a little closer, "im so glad i met you."
rowan couldn't stop the smirk that drunkenly escaped her lips, "me too, lewis."
it was like the music completely seeped through the walls. and the girls forgot about everything else.
'but honey i'll be seein' you 'ever i go..'
drunk marceline was an overthinker, she glanced at rowan's lips in the pink bathroom light and couldn't see a reason not to do what she did next.
'but honey ill be seein' you down every road..'
rowan smiled back at her in their bubble of sanctum found in the bathroom with only the music able to be heard.
'i'm waiting for it, that green light, i want it.'
marci gave in and kissed her. something she almost did everyday for the past few weeks. the music continued to play from the outside as they slowly moved.
rowan, shocked, drunk, high and all of the above pulled apart, "oh.."
"oh shit." marceline said snapping back into reality and dropping her arms to rush to the bathroom door.
"im so sorry, i wasn't thinking." she stammered before closing the door behind herself, leaving rowan alone with her thoughts.
**
marceline struggled to pull her phone out of her back pocket as she made her way out the front door. she texted the only familiar she'd known at the moment.

"notice how at every party you end up in the den talking to me?" christian said sitting next to izzie on the window seat.
"what can i say. at this rate, be careful smith, we're gonna be besties." she teased.
"im hurt, i thought we already were?" he mocked, putting a hand over his heart.
"oh of course. it just blanked my mind for a minute there." she said humoring him, "i almost forgot about the part where you promised you'd teach me british slang."
"as soon as you put down your posh.." he paused to read the label on her drink, "actually rubbish 5% hard seltzer you call a drink."
this made her genuinely laugh for the first time all day. her mind had been preoccupied with confusing thoughts of-
"brandon." she said outloud, catching a glimpse of outside the window seeing him and marceline get into his car together.
christian, confused, followed her gaze out the window and immediately knew what she was thinking.
"hey isabella," he started making sure to get her attention, "hey. listen, im sure it's nothing." he finished as he began to pat her shoulder.
it didn't stop her from watching brandon drive off. this is what she was afraid of.
