brandon was standing in front of the sign up sheet for the school's hockey team. try outs were next week. he was debating whether or not to put his name down.

"hey." izzie approached slowly clutching onto her binder for dear life.

brandon's face noticeably lit up at the sight of her. "hey." he said hesitantly taking a step closer.

the pair silently stared at each other. a stranger walking by in the hall could have easily felt the tension between them.

brandon broke the silence, "do you wanna talk now?" he was nervous. it was clear to him that something between them shifted after the kiss. it was even clearer that izzie did not want to talk about it.

izzie took a deep breath and brought her hand up to smooth out her furrowing eyebrows, "honestly, brandon i don't really want to have this conversation right now."

she didn't want to talk about the subject at all. much less, in front of her classmates walking by.

"so are we just never gonna talk about it?" he said with a hint of desperation inching towards her.

"that's not what im saying." she noticed the disappointment plastered on his face. she couldn't help that seeing him like this made her a little sad. "look," izzie sighed before continuing "i'll text you and we can figure out when to talk. okay?"

there were lots of thoughts swarming around her head at the moment and she needed a little time to decipher exactly what they meant.

brandon stood there in silence glancing between her and the sign up sheet, wondering how they got there.

izzie turned her head towards the sheet and remembered that he was staring at it when she walked over. instinctively she leaned over, picked up the hanging pen, and signed his name.

she looked to him with a half smile, "don't let it be for nothing." and then she walked away.

he silently scorned himself for not speaking. there was so much he wanted to say but he didn't know how.

during his self loathing he felt a pat on his back, "yorke."

he turned around to see christian standing there, "what happened friday night? isabella saw you leave with marceline. mate, if you're cheating on her with her, i will choose her side. just to let you know."

christian noticed his frustration, "wanker move. im actually quite fond of izzie. she's a nice girl."

brandon finally interrupted him, "can i be honest with you chris?"

"it's about time." christian said leaning against the wall.

"okay, so back in the summer izzie and i made a plan it was to get me back together with marceline." brandon started and christian couldn't even pretend to hide the shock on his face.

"we were supposed to pretend to date to make her jealous and want me back. there were rules and everything, but honestly i think i fell for her weeks ago. i don't even want marceline anymore. but we kissed alone in her room and now she's avoiding me." he said the last part leaning against the wall.

"oh shit mate," christian jumped up, "she saw you leave the party with marceline!" he slowly turned to face him, "well then what was that about?"

"it was literally nothing. she saw that? fuck. fuck. fuck. i fucked up." brandon was mentally kicking himself.

christian offered him a sympathetic smile, "yeah, you've got to fix that. she seemed disappointed when she saw."

*flashback

brandon parked his car in front of marceline's house to drop her off. switching the car off he turned to face her, "why'd you get so drunk tonight?"

marceline groggily rubbed her head, lifting it from the car window. the coldness of the window eased her dizziness a bit, "i don't really know. i wasn't supposed to."

they sat in silence while marceline tried to regain her composure before going inside.

marci broke the silence, "do you know that feeling when you're with someone and suddenly you can't control the things you do."

she looked to him as she took off her seat belt, "it's like any kind of logic you have in your mind disappears and all you want to do is smile and laugh with them. you're also constantly holding yourself back from the overwhelming urge to just kiss them all the time..."

brandon smiled, a little surprised, at the person that crossed his mind. izzie. "you feel like that?" he asked her.

marci leaned her head back in the passengers seat and took a deep breath, "that's how she makes me feel." brandon blinked a few times to confirm that he was awake as she continued, "i couldn't hold myself back anymore and kissed her."

she laughed almost bitterly, "you know what they say about liquid courage."

he figured he should say something, anything to make her feel better, "im glad you texted me."

octavia and izzie are in a backroom of the rec center stamping invitations. when octavia walked in today for her volunteer shift, she found out there was going to be a celebration for the kids and was meant to send out invitations by the end of the day. she called izzie to help her out.

"what do you know about christian?" octavia asks over izzie's loud stamps.

"christian's great, i actually know he volunteers here sometimes and obviously he has the whole accent thing. but he's actually really funny and smart he always has something to say even if no one asked, kinda like brandon." STAMP! "why do you ask?"

"i was intrigued." octavia answered, "i feel like i've never payed him any mind before and i know he's brandon's friend."

"yeah brandon's friend. he has a lot of those. with his stupid green eyes and stupid dirty blond hair and stupid dimple when he smiles that can convince someone to do just about anything if he asked the right way. and stupid me who agreed." STAMP!

she cut her off, "agreed to what?" octavia turned in her direction.

izzie went on, "and it's like i cant even be angry. i knew exactly what kind of guy he was." STAMP!

she continued, "i mean it's brandon. what made me think this, no-no, i was different." STAMP!

"honestly he can do whatever he wants because he and i are done! i cant believe i almost let myself-" STAMP! "feel-" STAMP! "a shred of-" STAMP STAMP! "-emotion for him." STAMP STAMP STAMP!

octavia was done with just sitting idly by when izzie started stamping the same invitations in anger, "yeah, when i asked for your help this is not what i had in mind by the way."

izzie stood up and put the stamp down slowly, "sorry he just gets under my skin like no one."

"what'd he do now?" she asked hesitantly.

izzie put her bag back on and sighed defeatedly, "honestly, he makes me crazy i don't even want to  talk about it. he's actually supposed to be meeting me at my house in a few so i gotta go."

"let me know if you need me to kick his ass" octavia said giving her a hug, "because you're starting to scare me. just a little."
