Alyssa
“I'm just getting right through it, Mrs Graham you're pregnant.”
Pregnant. I'm pregnant again. Of all the possibilities that came to mind this wasn't one of them. I should've thought of it though.
I checked Nathan to gauge his reaction. He looked happy enough, not as much as when I told him about Alhan though.
I, on the other hand didn't know what to feel. The more prominent thoughts in my mind were why the doctor announced it so grimly and why I'd gotten so sick while with every other kid I had never been that bad.
“Although this is good news, there is cause for concern.” He stated.
“What cause?” I prompted him.
He sighed deeply. “I fear this pregnancy could be quite risky for you, possibly fatal.”
My mouth gaped in surprise as he continued.
“Your blood test showed you have a deficiency of some vital minerals which could pertain to kidney damage.”
“Is there anything you can do?” Nathan asked for me.
“I'll refer you to a doctor who specializes in these sort of situations. He'll give better advice than I can.”
I found my voice at that moment and muttered a small 'okay'. We waited outside while the man called the specialist.
Nathan didn't have his emotions clear on his face while I wanted to cry. I couldn't understand why this was happening to me. I still felt a little sick and tired and now I have to deal with the fact that my pregnancy might not be safe.
Why is this happening to me? Haven't I been through enough?
“Love?” I heard Nathan call. He was standing, holding a hand out for me. “Let's go, the doctor says she can see us now.”
I nodded, taking his hand. He gave mine and affectionate and reassuring squeeze before we started the walk. We stopped at an exam room, I was directed to sit on the doctors chair and wait.
I spotted a nurse keep a folder in the holder by the door. Judging by all the doctor shows I've watched and my other visits to hospitals, I concluded that all the information on my pregnancy was on there. I needed to see it.
“I'll be back Nathan, I just need some air.” I told the man who was barely listening mostly likely absorbed by his thoughts.
I creeped closer to the door, contemplating whether or not I should take a look at it. I have never seen any other patient do this but the information inside is about me, I have the right to know.
I took it out slowly and opened to the first piece of paper. It was my general information. My name, age, height, weight, I gained three pounds. The test results where on the next page.
I was about six weeks pregnant and in need of a lot of medication. The handwriting was just a bunch of scribbles to me, I couldn't even see the drugs they were prescribing or what nutrients I was lacking.
“What is this?” I muttered silently as I went through the file.
I skimmed through the next paper and found nothing more but scribbles and illegible writing. A groan escaped my lips as my head began to hurt more and my eyes strained.
“Mrs Graham,” I stiffened, hearing the firm female voice behind me. “I believe that's for me.”
I turned around to see a woman in her late forties looking at me with an expectant look. She had whitening black hair and nice brown eyes. She woe scrubs and a lab coat on to with her name on it, Candace Wells.
