one week after the slippery escape

"D'you not wanna eat anything?" Jimin's head peeked past the door frame, worried look on his face.

You turned around whilst still leaning against the wooden railing with an apologizing smile, waving him off, "Not right now, I'm sorry. I'll make myself something once I'm hungry."

"Oh. Alright..." The blond looked at you for another second, opening his mouth and closing it again, before finally speaking up, "Try not to think about it too much. He'll be fine."

"I know." You sighed. You knew. Of course he'd be fine. He is fucking Jeon Jungkook. Nothing could harm him, "I'm just really not hungry right now." You turned back around, letting your gaze wander over the abandoned city at the foot of the hill, on which Jimin's shrine was built.

This sucked. This really, really fucking sucked.

And not because you were worried about whatever could happen to Jungkook down there. No. Again; He'd be fine for sure.

It was the fact that he hadn't wanted to take you with him. He just suddenly parked you here at Jimin's, after having made you assure him how safe it was up there, how no Prowlers ever came up there, unknowing that you pretty much dug your own grave by doing so. Because then, after having made sure that you'd e safe here, he just- he left you with Jimin, saying cryptic shit about how he had stuff to care of first.

It was possibly worse than you having gotten fucking kidnapped to be human sacrifice for some basement Prowler.

Perhaps, it would've been less annoying if he'd just told you about what exactly it was, that he felt he had to do without you. But he didn't. It felt like that time before meeting Namjoon and the others all over again - when he avoided speaking about his past at all costs.

"Here-" You jumped when Jimin suddenly appeared next to you, steaming bowl of soup in each hand, "-because I don't believe you."

"Jimin-"

He shoved one bowl against your chest, almost making some of the soup splash over the edge, "Shut up. Soup time." You chuckled, eventually accepting the food.

"Thanks."

He hummed grumbly, proceeding to rest his bowl on top of the wooden railing, taking a spoonful - just to burn his tongue, "Owowow-" He coughed, blowing through his mouth, "Damn." He placed down the spoon, clearing his throat before saying what you assumed he came here for, "Really, don't worry about Jeon. He'll be back soon. I can feel it."

Your eyes fell onto the ring on his left hand, uncomfortable feeling settling in the pit of your stomach. He'd told you about it, as soon as you'd asked about the ring- about his fiancé and how they died. It was tragic, just as tragic as the fates of every other survivor around.

"Yeah." You breathed, blowing against your own spoonful of soup, "I believe you."

one week earlier

"Uhm, no."

Pretty much the answer Jungkook had expected, honestly. To be fair, it came out of the blue, his idea of leaving her with Jimin. But the little guy seemed trustworthy and when else would he get the chance to leave her somewhere alone? He'd get to settle all his past bullshit and they could live happily ever after.

"Look, Chibi, I know it's random, but ya gotta trust me."

"Jungkook, I do trust you, but the doesn't mean I listen to what you say." Her arms were crossed in front of her chest, chin tugged upwards stubbornly and he suddenly started to already miss her, "There's really no reason for me to stay here. What did you say about 'as long as I'm with you nothing will happen to you' again?" She mocked his voice, clearly pissed about his sudden demands.

And well- it was true. But taking her with him would lead to a whole other issue; As for now, that Jiyong bastard believed that Jungkook was alone. And that was good. Because as long as he wasn't aware of Jungkook's... well... weakness, Jungkook didn't have anything to worry about. Because he didn't have any actual experience in protecting people. He usually did the opposite. So, if Jiyong knew about Y/N's existence it would... get complicated. And Jungkook didn't like complicated.

He liked things easy and done quickly - and he also liked his girlfriend and their own safe bubble of prowlers and chili ramen. And he intended to fucking keep it like that. Just the two of them (and blondie for now, he guessed). He wouldn't let Jiyong get between them.

"Look, Chickie s' is complicated, y'know? It's not that I don't think you could make it. S' just... please let me take care of this one alone. I fucked up so I'll handle it as well."

She looked reluctant, as if there was so much more left for her to say, "You'll just leave even if  I say no, right?" Her voice broke at the last word, frustration leaking into her voice, "You fucking asshole."

Jungkook panicked slightly, afraid she'd start to cry or something, just because of his stupid fucking idea, "No- Chibi, please I won't leave just like that, I-" He realized that she was right. Even if she said no right now, he'd probably try to force his stubborn ass through this one, "I'm sorry, Chickie."

She glared at the ground, even when he enclosed her into a tight hug, his lips pressing a kiss against the top of her head, "I'll be quick. I swear." He swayed her slightly in his arms, hoping that somehow, it would make her be less angry at him.

He couldn't stand it when she was angry at him- honestly, he wanted her to only ever look at him with stars in her eyes. But right now it was more like her eyes were shooting daggers at him. So he hugged her tighter, pressing her face against him with one hand at the back of her head.

"How long did you plan on doin' something like this?" She asked, voice muffled against his chest.

"Ehh, I got the idea just now?"

She laughed against him, though the was a bitter laugh - the salty kind, "That's so you. Idiot." She looked up at him, "At least I know for sure you weren't plotting anything behind my back."

He gasped scandalized, "I'd never!"

She smiled sadly, "I know." Getting up on her tippy toes, she pressed a kiss against his lips, just a fleeting one, but still there, hot and heavy against his skin, "Still, fuck you."

"I'll be back in a blink." He whispered, "You- you won't even know I was gone."
