Wilbur and I agreed to meet at the coffee shop that we used to hang out at before we broke up. I’m pretty sure that when we actually agreed to meet up, we weren’t entirely thinking it through. Knowing him though, it’s all he’s been thinking about today and last night.

I get to the coffee shop at one like we’d talked about. He’s already here, sitting at a booth in the back next to a window. I slip my hands into my hoodie pocket and go over to him. I sit in the seat across from him. He runs his hand through his curly brown hair then leans on the table in front of him.
“It’s been a while.”he says.
“Yeah. How are you?”
“I’m- Okay. I guess. How about you?”
“About the same.”
“Good. How’s work?”
“As good as it ever is honestly. What about you?”
“Pretty good. It’s mostly been late night streams lately. I haven’t been doing games as much as I used to.”
“I think I caught a few of them.”
“Really?”
“Yeah.”
“I didn’t think you’d still watch any of it.”
“Mmm.”
He just traces patterns on the table in front of us with his fingertips.
“Will.”I say, trying to make sure he doesn’t zone out.
He looks up at me again when he hears that.”Hm?”
“You were zoning out.”
“Sorry. I didn’t mean to.”
“It’s okay. What were you thinking about?”
“Nothing I’ll repeat.”
“Will come on. Please?”
“Okay okay. Do you have a boyfriend or anything?”
“No. It’s been like two months. I don’t move on that easily.”
“Oh thank god.”
“Will!”
“What? You asked.”
“Yeah.”
“Sorry. I just- Whether it ended on good terms or not, I still don’t even like the idea that you’re with anyone else.”
“I know. But, you have to remember that we have to move on at some point. We’re still friends. We just can’t keep each other from being happy. Okay?”
“Mhm.”
“Thank you.”
“Yeah.”
We talk for a bit longer before we take different taxis back to our apartments.
