Not The Only Ones

Chapter 5 - I Dont Want Too!

"Is this kidnapping?" Luisa asked slightly concerned.
"Might be kidnapping?" Camilo added, "DEFINITELY KIDNAPPING." Luz hollered from Luisa's shoulders squirming pitching a fit.

"Now now, your mother did say we could take you." Mirabel said keeping up behind Luisa fixing Luz's hair behind their ear. "IM IN MY LATE TWENTIES. BORDERLINE THIRTY. She cant dictate my life."

"Well.... you're more than welcome to go back home but.....you sure you want too?" Bruno chuckled quietly. Everyone gulped and shivered. "He's right Luz....your mother was.... " Camilo started  "Adamant."

A few moments ago.....

"I can't go with you!! Im supposed to stay here. Why would I go with you in the first place?! " Luz laughed. Bruno adjusted his clothing "Well I think it'd be nice if you'd explain to the family..well everything you just told us." Luz messed with a bracelet on their wrist. "I dont know. We usually keep our distance. We're not exactly normal." Luz stopped to look up at the magical family infront of them. "I mean, even more so than you. At least you look normal. We're glowy and light...y. And walking is hard so floating is what I prefer. Matter of fact being just light is what I prefer. What if they're scared of me?! Theres a thin line between being in awe and being scared senseless you know!" Luz panicked grabbing their hair in both hands.

Mirabel slowly pulled their hands back down. "You GAVE us our gifts. Abuela...no our whole family would LOVE to meet you." She said softly.

"Also it would bring peace to know that we can communicate with somebody about our powers versus us just living willy nilly hoping we dont mess up in some way. Cant really go to the local Doc when I get stuck with somebody else's head, or those moments that Luisa can't even lift an empanada, or when Dolores has ticks where she drowns the town in flowers." Camilo added, resting a hand on Luz's shoulder. He smiled softly. "You know a lot, you can teach a lot. And you're pretty cool. We'd really like it if you can come visit us." Luz lowered their head softly and thought quietly when suddenly a voice boomed in everybody's head.

"YOU'RE .GOING."

Everyone looked around. "WHO'S THAT?!" Luisa loudly whimpered. Luz face palmed heavily. "My motheerrrrrrrrrr."

"My MoThEr...how rude. BE NICE TO ME." The voice said poutingly. "Anyhow! Hello Im their Mother! Michelle! Just Chel' is fine though! I heard that name in the village once and fell in love with it! Im so excited I can finally use it! Hi! Hello!" The voice chirped.

"Amaaaaa! Youre so embarrassing!" Luz muttered looking around trying to locate her and there she was, a ball of glittering light of course. But she was there. "Ay Dios miooooooo! You're all the cutest! Oh myyyyy, Bruno, Camilo, Luisitaaaa, and *GASP*" the ball of light shot towards Mirabel. "MIRABELLLLLL AY MI NIÑA! Youre so precious. I could EAT you." Chel said with a restraint in her voice that said if she had hands she definitely would be smooshing Mirabel's face right now. "Thank you!" Mirabel said brightly with underlying tones of concern.

While the group got through the initial hellos and apologies to Mirabel from Chel for her not getting a gift the conversation shifted back to Luz. "Anywho I think it's time Luz, finally went to the village anyhow. Its about time for them to find a spouse."

"MA." Luz said, wanting to crawl up and die. "What?" Chel retorted quickly. "It's time, mi amor. So go. If you don't find anyone theres other villages but go with the Madrigals. Give them our greetings in our family's place and try to find somebody. Please."

Chel's light motioned towards the Madrigals. "Watch them for me please." she asked softly. The Madrigals nodded with a small smile.

"BUT BUT!" Luz started. "HOW DO YOU FIND A SPOUSE?! WHAT DO I DO?! Do I have to use my legs?! I havent walked in YEARS! WHAT IF THEY THINK IM WEIRD?! "

"I can carry you!" Luisa said with a smile. Luz turned to them, grateful but kind of wanting to take her gift again.

"You're going end of story. And let me warn you...." Chel said quietly. "If you come back here...with not even an inkling of what you want in a spouse or without even TRYING...." The forest and sky darkened, the animals of the forest began to scatter frantically and Chel's small orbs of golden light became black gritty balls of smoke and darkness. "Well! We'll cross that bridge when we get there!" Chel chirped immediately turning back into her golden light and simultaneously turning everything back to normal.

And with that...they were off. Back to town. Luz bobbed back and forth while draped over Luisa's shoulder. "I can carry you in my arms if you'd like Luz, I feel kind of bad carrying you like a donkey." she said quietly enough so the others couldn't hear. Luz seemed all talked out. Afterall whens the last time they actually used their voice? Chel did say Luz needed to get used to their human side instead of being lazy and floating around as light and speaking telepathically.

"Im fine Luisa. Thank you. I feel like this suits my mood better. Besides. You're a very pretty lady and if you were to carry me in your arms like a princess I would simply self combust." Luz mumbled as if it were a regular everyday thing Luisa heard everyday.  She tripped and quickly caught herself. "Are you okay?!" Luz said looking back at her. "All g-good." Luisa said keeping her warm face low.

"Good."

Luz made eye contact with Camilo. He looked up and raised his eyebrows to acknowledge her. Luz smiled warmly. They liked Camilo. He was sweet and funny. His gift was one of their favorites. Camilo darted his eyes around quickly before kicking some rocks as he walked. Bruno was next he jogged up to Luisa to talk to Luz. "You hanging in there alright?" Luz reached down and adjusted his hair behind his ears just like Mirabel did to them earlier. "Yes. More or less. I hope your family likes me the way you all do." Bruno choked. "I- uh-oof.  I-I-Im sure they will." He chuckled and slowed his pace letting everybody pass him. Camilo jabbed him in the arm just enough with his elbow and darted him a bratty glare as he passed him. Mirabel purposely pushed her curls messily into her face so they were in the way of her eyes. Luisa gave a similar Camilo side eye to Bruno from behind Luz before pulling them down towards her frontside more so they werent hanging as much down her back.

"What was all that for?" Bruno said rubbing his arm before speeding up just a bit to stay with the group.
