Katy woke up and walked downstairs to have some breakfast before she went to school. It was no surprise that her best friend Lucas was already there waiting for her. He lived next door to her for years, they have been best friends since they were little kids.
Her older brother Dylan was sitting at the table eating his breakfast. "Mom and Dad left." He explained to his sister. "I figured that." She said to Dylan as she grabbed a plate of food. They sat at the table together eating breakfast in silence for a couple of moments.
They were both on a time frame to make it to school on time. Just then there was a nock on the front door. "I bet it's your boyfriend." Dylan teased his younger sister. "Shut the hell up Dylan he's gonna hear you." Katy said clearly unamused by his little comment.
Dylan just shook his head and laughed as Katy opened the door for him, "Hey, ready for school?" He asked her. "Oh yeah just another couple of minutes." She told him nervously as she walked up the stairs to finish getting ready. Once Katy was out of earshot Dylan said, "could be a while." In a joking manner to Lucas.
Lucas just shook his head at Dylan not really knowing what to say. Lucas grabbed a bottle of water from the fridge while he was waiting for Katy to be ready when she unexpectedly came down the stairs. "All ready to go." She said to Luke. Just then Dylan's phone rang.
"Yeah mom what's up?" He asked his mother. They could hear yelling but they really were sure what she was saying to Dylan. "Yeah mom I'm going to school, I'm not ditching." He said as he ended the call. Katy shook her head at Dylan as her and Luke walked out the front door.
*****Time Jump*****
"Okay class presentation's are due on Friday no excuses." The English teacher said as the bell rang for lunch. That's when Katy realized that her birthday was on Friday. "Oh shit." She thought to herself."Hey you coming to lunch." Katy's one friend Britney asked. "Yeah I'm meeting Luke at my locker, you can go on without me Brit." She explained to her friend. "I'll try to save you a seat." Britney said as she walked away. Katy opened up her locker and set her morning books down on the shelf. She felt someone twirl her hair around.
That made her jump a little bit. "I'm sorry I wasn't trying to scare you." Luke said to her as she turned around. "That's okay." She said to him as she caught her breath. "So you've got a big day coming up soon." He said happily. "I know I can't believe it, I'm turning seventeen on Friday!" She said ecstatically to Luke.
"Do you have anything planned yet?" He asked her curiously. "No not yet." "Why exactly?" She asked him. "Oh, no reason." He lied. As they walked into the cafeteria together Katy noticed that Britney was sitting with her other friends. Katy didn't mind her being friends with them but she just felt like she was slowly being replaced.
Luke saw the look of hurt in her eyes. It gave him a bad feeling in the pit of his stomach. "Hey I've got an idea." He said to Katy. "What?" She asked him. "Why don't we eat lunch out in the court yard today?" He asked her. "Sure that sounds like a plan." She agreed.
Luke grabbed a sandwich for himself and a salad with a side of Italian dressing for Katy. He knew that it was one of the only things she liked that the school served. "Thanks." She said with sadness in her voice. As they found an empty bench in the court yard. "No problem I know it's your favorite." He said to her comfortingly.
They were the only two people in the court yard today. "Well this is nice for a change." Katy said as they looked around at the scenery. Luke unwrapped his sandwich and Katy started to eat her salad. Suddenly there was a cold breeze on her shoulders.

"So you ditched school again." Katy said to Dylan not surprised. "Yeah so what." He said as he opened up a bag of Doritos. "Look I don't care but Mom and Dad won't be too happy." She told him. Just then Britney's car pulled in the driveway. "Britney's here." Katy told Dylan. "Okay." He said as he continued to eat his Doritos.
