Lowkey the last chapter is the longest chapter I've ever written for any of my fics. I'm lowkey proud lol.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Bruce pulled into the streets the bat-mobiles engine roaring as he pushed the acceleration button. Clark flew above him while Wally ran beside him. Alfred had given him a tip on a Scarecrow sighting near city hall. Though he knew the mayor was at his manor he knew they could get access to the ventilation system that was connected to a majority of the homes within the downtown area of the city. Ivy was seen near the Knights baseball stadium. He hated the idea of splitting off with the others but he knew it was necessary if they were going to save as many people as possible.
He spoke into the comms, "who wants Ivy?"
"I can go." Wally offered.
"Sounds fine to me." Clark approved.
"Of course it does." Bruce mumbled softly and Clark gave him a look he couldn't quite read.
Wally split off and disappeared within seconds. Bruce pulled into an ally near city hall and kept to the shadows. Clark landed next to him trying his best to go unseen in bright blue and red. Bruce stopped in his tracks and gave Clark a dead stare.
"What's wrong?" Clark raised an eyebrow.
"Why are you trying to stealth with me? Float near the roofs and scope out the place." Bruce couldn't stop the smile that reached his lips.
"What if he gets the drop on you?" Clark retorted.
"Then you'll see it from the sky." Bruce huffed, "I am not some fragile child, Kal."
"I know." Clark hesitated but then started to float up, "wait call me Kal again."
"Shut up, Kent." Bruce shook his head hating the heat that reached his ears.
Clark let out a laugh and moved high enough to not be seen by anyone. Bruce started to move towards city hall once again when he could see the back door broken and open. He slipped through and the entire building was pitch black. He grabbed one of his batarangs for security and made his way towards the basement. He could hear shuffling from downstairs and his heart was pounding in his ears.
"I don't think I'm alone in here." He spoke lowly into his comm.
"I'm coming now." Clark didn't hesitate and within seconds he was beside Bruce.
"Just stay behind me, in case they have the kryptonite still." Bruce warned him and Clark nodded.
They both made their way downstairs keeping their steps as silent as possible. Bruce could see a red glow from the bottom of the stairs and he felt his heart sink to his stomach. He placed a hand on Clark's chest stopping him before he got to the bottom. Clark raised an eyebrow at Bruce though he kept his eyes ahead checking to see if anyone heard them.
"You have to get out of here." Bruce spoke softly but Clark could clearly hear the panic in his voice.
"I'll be okay, Bats." Clark tried to reassure him but Bruce shook his head.
"There's no telling what this red kryptonite can do to you." Bruce wasn't budging and neither was Clark.
"I'm not going to leave you to fight by yourself when we're dealing with poison." Clark felt himself getting frustrated and he could tell Bruce was as well.
"You're definitely the target." Bruce's said through clenched teeth, "I'm not risking it."
"You have no choice." Clark didn't stand down, "you're more likely to die from the poisoning than I am."
