God blessed me with paper wings
So I wouldn't fly high
Too close to the sun
So I couldn't fall hard
As my wings would burn
A million pins
Like bullets through flesh
Stick me to the mountain
Where blood gushes free
Into the roaring river
Raised from the floor
Like a corpse from the grave
Turning my gaze at the centre of town
Together they stand
Singlehandedly they fall
I drew water from the well
In the broken reflection
I spotted shards of myself
Drifting away
To never be seen
I was ripped away
Torn free from those nails
That held me down
Made holes in the ground
Pinned me down
I was blessed
Not with luck
But with sense
Guilty you plead
As I walk free
Yet I am jailed
Bound to trains
On track to nowhere
Rushing forward
Into the end of time
As I decline and resign
I'm put off my feet
Staggering ,falling free
Into the looming gorge
Crashing down upon infinity
As I woke up
I met a man
He smiled and broke out laughing
Lending me a hand
Taking me to the gate
Carry on he spoke
I stood at the white gate
Banging my head against the wall
He looked at me
And left me be
As songbirds sing of a night lost in time
I know that legend is one of mine
From up above I gaze down upon the earth
Where ocean and land make love
I've not been forgotten
In rows they stand fine
Passing on their final goodbyes
As I now exchange my paper wings
For wings of old feathers
Breaking through whatever weather
As I shed a new light
At the break of dawn
Burn the passion from their memory
I'm the captain of my soul
Rising freely
Sailing clear
