A month had already past since Kat had entered the Hype House, and what a weird month it has been. While Vinnie and some of the other members went back home for the Christmas Holidays, Kat was stuck in a massive mansion FaceTiming her mother so she didn't feel so alone. She was thankful though, Thomas and Mia tried to include her in a lot of activities around home, like having Disney marathons and shopping at Walmart – which she found to be more exciting than that time she found a $50 note on the curb.
She missed Vinnie though, even after having two days to get to know each other before he flew over to Seattle to see his family. To be fair, the two had been messaging each other since he left, but still she wished she could see him in person. She missed his company, his laugh, the way he'd actually look at her during conversation. She appreciated his kindness towards her, and while everyone else was also kind, it didn't feel like anything important to appreciate. There was something about Vinnie that just made Kat enjoy being in California, and while she just brushed this off as "a new friend", that wasn't the case. There was something else going on, she just had to take some time to recognise it.
"You know season 1 of the Hype House comes out today?" Thomas says, placing some nuggets into the air fryer. Over the past month the kitchen had been quieter than the night she met Vinnie, and Kat couldn't help but try and relish in the moment before everyone came back to Moorpark.
"Is it the seventh already?" Kat replies without taking her eyes off her screen, where she was looking over analytics of her most recent video. As Thomas was one of the only ones that hadn't gone away for the holidays, Kat and him had gotten somewhat close. She didn't really see him as a close friend, or a mentor, or anything like that: just someone she could trust if she needed help.
"Yeah, everyone's showing up to watch it in the theatre room tonight, you in?" Thomas asks enthusiastically with a smile on his face, grabbing a plate from the cupboards above the air fryer.
"Everyone? What about those who haven't come back yet?" Kat says, taking a sip of the juice box in her hand. Breaking her eyes away from her phone screen, the girl looks over at Thomas.
"Vinnie comes back in a few hours, but other than that we're all in LA, just different area's," Thomas explains, however Kat didn't really care about the last part. All she cared about was the fact that Vinnie was coming back, and that she would be able to see him more often. The thought of that made her smile a little bit, but Thomas continued talking.
"You'll even get to meet Chase and Ryland tonight," Thomas says this as if Kat hadn't met Chase before. While they haven't seen face to face, she and Chase were somewhat acquainted, sort of like her and Thomas before she moved. However, less of a friendly acquaintanceship like she had with Thomas.
