Chapter 2: Will ( August 3rd ) WEDNESDAY

Will woke up and turned over in bed, Max’s ears went up and his tail automatically began to wag.

“Good morning bud” He swung his feet off the side of the bed and walked up to the sliding door to open it. Max was by his side in an instant. Will walked down to the kitchen and started to brew his coffee. He clicked on the tv and turned it off when he saw that the news channel was talking about a bombing that happened in a foreign country. Some sort of terrorist attack, there had been a lot of attacks happening lately.

He looked at the deck door and saw Max patiently waiting with his bone in his mouth. He opened the door and went back to the counter and poured himself a cup of straight black coffee. He needed something to wake him up. As he began to sip on the fresh Italian Roast that was imported, his mind wandered off. It had been doing that a lot lately. Immediately he imagined the girl from yesterday. Her curly hair was attempted to be tamed in a bun, and the thing that was most striking about her were her eyes. They were a hot chocolate brown with speckles of gold. He smiled unconsciously as he remembered how she had blushed when Michael had scolded her choice of donuts. His thoughts faded away when Max climbed up onto him, leash in his mouth.

Will looked at the time, it was exactly 10:00 A.M. Time for their morning run. He sighed, put his coffee down and took the leash from Max's’ mouth and attached it to his collar. They both left the house and straight off they were running at the same pace. Max’s brown fur caught the light making it golden, which reminded him of her eyes. He shook his head, not allowing himself to go there. He looked straight ahead at the road and concentrated on the beat of his heart, the rhythm of his feet pounding on the floor, and Max’s breath.

“Come on Max.” He said as he sped up a little bit. Max responded with a bark and fell into step with him again. These moments were the ones that he loved; the kind of moments where work didn’t matter, where there was nothing bothering him. It was only him and his dog, no other worries.

Will let go of the leash when they saw the house come into view. Max took off running towards the house. It was their ritual. They usually did 6 miles, but today it felt right to do 8. He needed to pour the stress out of him. When he made it to the door, Max was laying down on the ground. He unlocked the door and put some water into Max’s bowl. He went down the hall and went into his weight room. He did a couple of weights before taking a steaming hot shower. His skin quickly turned red and steam filled the bathroom.

After washing up Will decided that he would head to the office early, because the meeting didn’t go as planned yesterday. He put on his gray suit and left the house.

40 long minutes later, he was walking through the lobby of Kennedy’s Insurance. The marble floors were sparkling.

“Good Afternoon Mr.Kennedy.” He looked at the girl, she was a dirty blonde, who could have been pretty except no one could compare to the curly haired girl. When he reached the 37th floor everyone was quiet as he walked by. He hated how everyone was intimidated by him. It made him feel like an unwanted creature.

“Wow.. I don’t think I’ve ever seen you in the office this early.” Will turned his head and smiled when he saw Micheal.

“Well.. The earlier I get here the earlier we get things figured out.” Michaels face immediately changed into a serious expression.

“Of course.” There was no trace of amusement. He was all business talk now. They gathered the other members and went into the meeting room. Their drinks were already waiting for them. Will felt a pang of disappointment.
