Chapter 32: The truth about Mateo

Liam takes a deep breath, rethinking what he just said. I touch his forearm, reassuring him everything will be fine.

"You can trust me" I say.

"I know"

"Take your time" I reply, sitting next to him on the bar stool.

"Okay, I don't know the whole story but this is something Olivia told me..." he starts. "...Everything started when he was in Italy, there he wasn't the person he is now; he was like a normal guy, living his life and preparing himself for the future, but he didn't do that alone; there was also Lorenzo. Mateo and Enzo have known each other their entire life; they we're like brothers. They did everything together even training for the position as The Mafia boss. They both wanted the same thing but they knew that only one of them could have it and they became rivals..." I already thought something like that. They both act like they hate each other but deep down they still care. "...But then a sudden someone came into both their lives" he looks down. "Kath..."

"Kath?" What does she has to do with this?

"Yeah...Kath was the daughter of one of the Leaders but he died, so Kath took over his roll at a young age, she was only 18. Now you think 'what does she has to do with this story, right?'"

"I do" I feel a little uncomfortable hearing this...

"Well...Like you already know, Kath was Mateo first love..." my heart aches at the mention of Kath as Mateo first love. "When they first met each other it was love on first sign, they were unbreakable, a power couple and not long after he asked her to marry him-"

"-She said yes?" I ask but know the answer already but I just want to be sure. He nods.

"Of course she did, but that's when everything changes...As the future son of a Mafia, he needed to go on mission and train himself, that also means less time for his fiancée and Kath wasn't happy with that. She acted like everything was fine, using his money in same time, but deep down she was a jealous Bitch! You need to know that being the Boss means a lot of attention, especially the girls... and she couldn't handle it so she did something..." he looks up, staring me in the eye. "She slept with Enzo" I gasp, did she really did that? Why in the world would she- "-She wanted to get him back, so one night, the night Mateo went on his first real mission, she took advantage of that and slept with Enzo..." I feel the pain Mateo must have felt.

"How did he find out?"

"He came home earlier then she expected and found them, bare ass naked. He couldn't take it anymore and almost killed Enzo but decided not to"

"Why?"

"It wasn't Enzo's fault"

"Why?" I arch a brow.

"Because later we found out he was drunk and had some drugs in his system, Kath poised him" what a bitch she is! "But Mateo was still pissed at both of them, called off the whole arrangement and flew to NY the same night...Here he could think clearly without his dad talking him in to still marry Kath and his mom that wanted him to marry a nice girl...He was 19 at the time when he came here and thought everything over. Finally, he decided to do nothing against Kath, as I already said; first love. But that broke his heart and his ego at the same time...He doesn't trust women anymore, even now he still doubt Olivia sometime, why do you think he's at the club right now?" He sighs heavily. "That whole thing with Kath broke his heart and it can't be fixed anymore but now..." he looks me right in the eye. "...Now you're here, you might not feel it but he change these couples of months...Now I see my big brother more and more, the one I still can remember"
