Death, 'hallucinations' and blood

A couple days had passed since you watched Annie kill Father Keigan. The other church members complained of a stench coming from the back of the church each time they passed the spot where Annie and Bertholdt had shoved him. Every time you looked at the seat, an urge to vomit came through your nose and down your throat. You felt guilty even though Father Keigan was the one who wanted to kill you. In a way, you also wanted to feed everyone.

You bargained with James to try to sell your gold pendant in order to help the other villagers, but he only scoffed and patted your head. He probably thought that you were just saying it to sound nice, but you really did mean it at that time. Sometimes you had nightmares about Father Keigan's face as you slept.

The way his eyes looked as he died. He watched you and begged you to help him, but you just stood there; frozen in place. He reached out to you, regretting trying to kill you after seeing where it led him. These images flashed in your head. You didn't want to see the light in his eyes slowly drain out anymore. You didn't want to see the way his arms slowly dropped down at his sides, the way he died with his eyes open, still open wide as Annie and Bertholdt shoved him under the bench, the preteens not bothering to close them.

"The pendant was grandma's. She gave it to mother, and mother used to play with you with the pendant when you were a baby. That's why she ended up giving it to you. I don't really know if you would really want to give it to the pastors." James walked up to you after he finished washing the last of the dishes in the church sink; it was the most he could do to repay the church.

He thought of you as a child, even though he was only 16 himself. He was almost an adult, but he really wasn't much older than you.

By yourself, you tried to give the pastors your pendant to get them, but they denied it. It made you feel much worse.

"You're very kind, [name], but the government is running out of food and imports. Here, specifically. Even if we did get money, they don't have enough resources to give us any more food." Pastor Jim rested his hand on the top of your head and gave you a good pat before saying his prayers for you.
You kept your head low.

Father Keigan died for nothing. Maybe he was going crazy, but he did it for a good reason? He tried to kill you so why do you feel so bad?

No, you didn't feel bad; you were scared.

You were scared that he would come back and haunt you to kill you for the second time to get his hands on that pendant of yours. Sometimes, when you woke up in the middle of the night to use the restroom, you tried to convince yourself that the tall figure in the corner of the hallways and rooms that you passed, the ones that looked like they slowly got closer, were just your eyes playing tricks on you. Even the visions of him standing over your bed with his dead, bloodshot eyes opened wide, looking down at you. Those nights you would keep your eyes open, in shock of what to do.
Remembering these images messed you up.

Your brother questioned if you were beginning to lose your sanity, but each time he remembered the way you kissed and held your sister's decapitated hand made him shiver. He realized that you were already crazy. He tried his best to not mention it, but he figured that you were probably suffering from the loss of your family members.

But of course, he knew nothing about the murder of Father Keigan.

It wasn't like James wasn't suffering, though. It hurt him. He had fresh memories of everyone in the family, and after the loss of your father, he had to deal with the loss of three more of his family members. He tried his best to keep his sanity for you. You were his only family and he did not want to take the chance of losing another sibling, even if they were starting to lose their marbles.
