You eagerly walk into work on Monday morning at 9am. Not eager to see and interact with Tom of course. Especially after what happened on Saturday Night You spent the whole of yesterday curing your hang over and relaxing. It felt good to get a way for a short while.
You go into the holding room where you store your coat and bag. There is a post – it note on my locker that asks if I can go to the director's office ASAP.
I just took this as a note to say some plans or script had changed and Max needed to see me. But I did wonder why the note wasn't on any of the other F.A.A's doors?
I composed myself before walking into the office. With bright eyes and a large smile... I enter.
"Hello Y/N, take a seat." I head Max's husky voice from behind.
"Morning Max, ho..."
I turn round to see Tom sitting there. Nervously tapping his leg. There are two other people behind Max. They are also quite high up in the Production, but I don't know them all that well and their faces certainly don't seem friendly.
I sit hesitatingly next to Tom. I got a strong draft of his cologne as I sit. Very musky. Very attractive. I dart a look with wide eyes to Tom who didn't even bother to look at me.
"So, I've seen the two of you around this set for the past week... Honestly... things need to improve between the two of you. I thought to myself last week that this was just teething problems Getting into a routine. Then that outburst on Friday Tom. It was simply unacceptable. In front of everyone like that."
"I know and I've apologised..."
"Don't interrupt" Max shot a stern look at Tom and that's the most authoritative I've ever heard him.
"Although this show is a Netflix production, we have a very small and tight budget for our first season. Like most shows. We simply cannot get a new actor or assistant in. Even though I know fine well both of you are desperate for these jobs. I was shocked Tom when you came to me this morning asking if you can get a new F.A.A."
I darted a look at Tom. Who sank further into his chair knowing, that he had just been outed by the director.
"You are not a demanding person Tom. I don't know what the fuck is wrong with you lately... I gave you this role as a risk and you know that. I was told you were better?"
Tom seems to want to melt away. Be anywhere but here.
Max sighs.
"You know... you are both very similar people. We didn't just throw you together especially after what you have been through Tom. We all thought you two would get on like a house on fire. Y/N was also going through a hard time before this too."
Max shifted his focus onto you. You suddenly feared for your life. "Now Y/N, I know you've been working ever so hard around here, but you need to make more of an effort with Tom, he is your job at the end of the day ... I also explained to Tom that last Saturday I got you to do a Job for me while I fetched Toms Coffee... didn't I?" he said with a raised brow.
I sat up slightly higher and gulped. Knowing that the director knew what I did and just took the fall for me. "Yes" I played along.
"Now, I really want to make this work. You don't have to be best friends but please, we can't afford have this drama going on around set. Is there anything you would like to say to each other?
I directed my attention towards Tom and spoke up almost immediately "Tom, I wanted to say sorry for anything I did wrong to offend you, I'll try harder. I've been told you have been going through things and il try make things easier for you... also, I didn't reject your drinks at the bar on Saturday... Bentley came over and said I shouldn't drink them as he suspected they had been spiked... honest."
Tom looked at me with his mouth starting to fall open, a look of bedrail on his face.
"Tom?" Max pushed...
"Erm, ahh ... yeah I apologise too... I already did when we had the chat before and I realised how much of a shit I was being... then clearly some miscommunications happened since that which lead me to believe she was against me, which is why I came in this morning demanding for a new assistant. So, I promise I won't be as harsh on you anymore."
My heart stated to warm slightly, feeling somewhat sorry for Tom. Maybe we were going to turn over a new corner.
"Right. with that then, we have a series to film" Max jumped up excitedly out of his chair.
Both Tom and I stood up at the same time, catching each of us softly looking in into the other's eyes and we smile. Tom gestures his hands as if to say after you.
"Wow, he's a gentleman... who knew" I blurted out... almost regrettably after the progress we made.
I feel like he could have taken it the wrong way. But instead, he smirked, looking down at his feet "and that's the northern sarcasm I envy."
My smile grows wider as I face the door so that Tom couldn't see. I walked out with a slight skip in my step, ready for my first day of filming.
