Regulus hated remembering the deaths of his loved ones. All it did was serve as a reminder that he couldn't save them.
"I understand why people hope that one day they'll see their loved ones again. Why they wish for an afterlife, away from pain, heartbreak, and suffering. Why we hold onto the hope that after we die we can live this perfect life with our loved ones. In Mystic Falls they have this tradition."
"What's the tradition?" The older female voice asked.
"It's called Remembrance Day, they write letters to their deceased loved ones and scatter them through the cemetery. I don't understand it, but I guess it all comes back to hope right?"
The woman sighed, "Reg, I get why you called, this is about Allison isn't it?"
"No," The boy quickly answered. "It's about all the people I've lost Melissa. I didn't exactly lose them in the easiest way. Erica was killed by Kali, Boyd was killed by Derek because of Kali, Allison, and Aiden were both stabbed with swords by the Oni, and Brett and Lori were killed by hunters. I don't exactly see why I want to remember that."
"So write to your mom."
"I don't even remember her anymore. I was nine when she died, but we lost long before then, and all I can recall is the ghost of her smile. Does that make me a horrible son?"
"God no Reg," Melissa said. "Claudia would be so proud of the young man you became, there is no doubt in my mind about it. I know Noah is proud of you."
"Are you? Proud of me that is."
"Reg, I'm not your mother-"
"No," Regulus interrupted. "But you are the closest thing I have to mother these days."
Melissa sighed again, "I am very proud of you kiddo."
Regulus cleared his throat when he noticed Thea, Hope, and Rafael approaching him, "I have to go, Melissa. It was nice talking to you."
"Goodbye Reg, take care, please. Tell Isaac to call me soon."
"I will."
Rafael smiled at him, "Someone checking in?"
Rafael and Regulus had become close, rather quickly which came as a surprise to everyone. Regulus was not one to become friends with someone quickly. The only person that had happened with was Isaac, and even then it was only because the two had grown up together in the same small town.
