FROM REBECCA'S POV
Vacations are great when your family isn't hounding on you. Rebecca and her brother bonded over how Hector had been treating her and how inappropriate it was for him to string her along. He even offered to share one of his sweet friends with her as long as she never tells him about any of the kissy face nonsense as he likes to call them.
Rebecca has enjoyed some quality family time for the first time since adolescence and adulthood. And it is hard to go back to college, back to the creeky dorm bed and the tasteless cafeteria food after being pampered at home.
The only thing she looks forward to is showing off her new look. She has gotten more confident and more stylish, some of it thanks to Jim who happens to live just a town away. So they met a few times even during their holidays. Jim is fun. She wishes Hector was more like him. But then again Jim is gay.
She got to know about the bleacher incident one day when Jim blurted out and instantly panicked. It took two scoops of ice cream and a big dollop of chocolate sauce to calm him down by eventually Jim told her everything.
Sam was tender and kind and passionate, he was respectful and also quite delicate contrary to what Jim expected and he gushed over the incident while gobbling down spoonful of sweetness. Rebecca finds herself wiping off some melted ice cream from the corner of his lips and imagining what it must be like to kiss his pillow like lips. She knows he is into men but she doesn't think of asking if he is bi-sexual. With her luck, she will end up hitting in a gay dude and ruining their friendship. So she pushes her thoughts into a dark little corner of her mind and continues to listen to him go on and on about Sam and the events from Bonfire Fest.
She is glad at least someone had a good time in the Fest. When Jim got to know about her birthday and the fact that he missed it even if he was with her that night, he felt guilty enough to take her out for a fully paid spa trip.
Hanging out with Jim feels like hanging out with a gal-pal. Someone you can share giggles and sexy stores with, someone you can show off your swimsuit too and someone who would make you hold her hoops and fight anyone who even tries to hurt you.
Since Jim did not want to go back alone, they decide to stay at Rebecca's place the night before they are supposed to head back to Uni.
"Thanks for letting me stay the night" says Jim "I was going to book a motel here but this futon barely off the floor in your room is so much cleaner that any beds in those f*cktown motels.".
They both giggled over the joke and soon drifted off to sleep. Having a gay friend is easy, she thinks. Jim sleeping over is not a problem and her family likes him in general. The next morning they were woken up with the smell of freshly baked muffins and the crackling sounds of eggs and bacon.
"Get up and get your things. We can't be late. My brother will k!ll me if he has to waste any time on dropping me to Uni."
"Us...dropping us. I'm with you, remember? I'm more than just a pretty accessory" Jim makes a joke and they chuckle with their still sleepy eyes refusing to fully open.
"Can we at least have breakfast? I'm not sure when I'll get to eat a decent meal after this." Jim says with metaphorical drool on his pillow lips, his tongue flicking out for a lick and spit-shining those pillow lips.
Oh his pillow lips, Rebecca thinks and zones out for a second before nodding in agreement. And then they both get to the kitchen and hop onto the tall seats by the isle. Her mother fixes them two heaping platefuls of homemade delicious food and they gobble down promptly.
"Don't forget to pack the cookies and brownies and some of that Indian snack thing you love. I asked your Anu Aunty to make those for the two of you. She dropped them off this morning during her speed walk thing. Make sure to send her a thank you text." Rebecca's frantic mother runs around with bags of food and last minute additions for her to drag back to her dorm room.
