Life.
Life can be so beautiful. Full of hope and joy and new beginnings.
Today they discovered something intriguing. It caused them to wander about in awe. It's a treasure so pure and bright and rare. It brings them infinite bliss and a feeling of fulfillment they've never known before. They didn't even know before that it was possible. Filled with wonder and excitement they feel ready to face anything and everything.
And then tomorrow...
That same Life will destroy that pure joy and treasure they discovered. In their haste to protect this precious thing they'll give up everything and anything.
But they'll only lose.
That's what Life does. That's what the world does. It stains all things untainted.
On the most beautiful rose you find the toughest thorns. As you strive to hold on to it, it cuts through your flesh.
Why is everything so double edged? Why does everything have to be so complicated?
Why can joy and wonder not exist till the end?
Why do innocence and wonder have to be tainted by doubt, fear, and selfishness?
It was never even their fault. They were the victims of the selfishness of a system that crushes all prefect things.
Each tried to shield the other from the blows thrown by the world but they ended up tripping and hurting each other. All that followed was pain and fear... and tears.
Now as their eyes happen to meet from across the street, all the memories come crashing in. Still so fresh and real and beautiful. Almost tangible. And therefore so painful. That's life for you.
Ah la vie... why do you make us cry so?
