remember that cheesy 'motivational' quote that teachers used to say?

(there's a lot, i know).

but y'know—that one about the past being forgotten, and today being the 'gift', which is why it's called the 'present'?

it's pretty cliché, and it's one that most of us—if not all—have heard some variation of. and they all have the exact same meaning.

no matter what way it's told or whichever way the words are linked, the moral was that today is a gift, and the important thing to do is to live in the present.

(yeah. cliché.)

you never really understood why people always repeated this quote like a motto. like okay, maybe there's a good meaning behind it and everything...but still. you never found truth in the words.

after all, you've been racing towards the future for seven years without ever looking back.

and look where you are now. perfectly fine.

nonetheless, these cheesy, overused motivational quotes about the present never seemed to leave your mind.

something about them...

"y/n?"

you blinked, finally leaving your thoughts.

wow. did i really just spend five minutes of my life thinking about stupid motivational quotes?

sorry—wasted five minutes of my life?

"you look sorta deep in thought," noya pointed out. "you good?"

"oh yes," the sarcasm crept out of you as you eyed your friend. "completely fine. not at all thinking about how you kidnapped me to kyoto."

(which, to be fair, you were thinking about it now.)

how yesterday, after meeting the tokyo team, noya had asked you where your dorm is.

and also about how, at 5am this morning, noya (including half the whole tokyo team), stormed into your dorm to wake you up. (with absolutely no dignity, either. you swore that the entire building had woken up from the noise.)

so now, at seven thirty in the morning, you found yourself on a bus in kyoto. many, many kilometres from the comfort of your dorm.

noya grinned. "surprise! you're gonna come watch our last game of university volleyball! obviously, it's another battle between tokyo and kyoto!"

you sighed. "that's great and all, but you didn't have to come into my room blasting 'shinzo wo sasageyo', ya know."

your best friend laughed. "old traditions die hard."

that, you were glad of.

before you could ask noya who even was on the kyoto team, another voice—one that belonged to no other than toru oikawa—spoke.

"guys! aren't you all excited to see y/n-chan?"

hoshiumi's eyes lit up. "my tour guide!"
