AN: Hey everyone! Thank you so much for reading this story! This idea has been in my head since I first watched Encanto, I just love the movie so much, so I thought, why not make a fun fanfiction for it! This is all just for fun and something I'll update here and there when I feel like it! Nothing too special! But I hope you all enjoy!

Just a heads up, I do not speak Spanish. So, if I mess up on some words, or phrases, or anything relating to the Culture or language, please kindly let me know! Thank you still for reading and hope you all enjoy!

"Fabian… Fabian, mijo. Wake up." A kind feminine voice partially whispered, shaking her young son's shoulder gently.

The small six-year-old boy with dark brown hair, very much unkempt because of the deep sleep, groaned and rubbed his eyes. He sat up slightly, yawning, "Mama…? What's wrong?"

His eyes tried to focus on the silhouette of his mother in his room, kneeling next to his bed. Yet it was so dark out he couldn't see her at all. What time was it, he wondered? It couldn't have been more than a few hours since they just got back from his friend Camilo's gift ceremony. It was such a fun and lively party. Fabian had a thrilling time with his two best friend's Camilo and Mirabel, sleep was needed for him.

So why did his mom wake him up so early?

"Nothing mijo… it's just…" she paused, and Fabian could hear her body shifting. "You father and I need to head away for a bit… with your sister."

"Lucia? But why? Where are you guys going?" The small boy asked, now more awake.

His mom and dad were leaving, and they were taking his little sister with them. Where would they even go? No one has ever left Encanto! But then again, has anyone ever really tried if they wanted to.

At almost the sound of her name, the ear shattering scream of his little sister echoed throughout the house. His sister only one year younger than him was screaming so loud, a scream of pure terror and fear.

Why was Lucia screaming?!

Fabian tried to get up to check on her, but his mom stopped him with her hands still on his shoulders. Keeping him seated in his bed.

"I'm sorry Fabian… but we'll be gone for a while. I promise we will come back, after we sort everything. Please be good and if you need anything, go to the Madrigal's, okay?"

The little boy, now nearly in tears, afraid of what was going on. His sister's screaming was not calming down at all, but was getting distant. His father must be taking her outside to the wagon and their donkey.

"B- but Mama…"

"Promise me Fabian." His mother's voice sterner than it was before, "stay here. Don't follow us, we will be back soon."

He had to listen, she sounded so serious, it scared him.

"O- okay…"

The grip on his shoulders relaxed with a sigh from his mom. Then a gentle kiss was placed on his forehead, "thank you. Keep an eye on the house while we're gone. Te amo muchísimo, mi hijo."

He felt a tear land on his face to his hands from his mother's eyes. Before the feeling of her hands left his cheeks, and the shadowed form of his mother left his doorway with a quick pace. Her shoes were going down the hall to where the front door was, before hearing it shut. The sound of the wagon riding off.

It sounded like they left… but maybe they were just tricking him. Maybe they didn't actually leave.

"Mama?" Fabian called out for his mother… his voice was nearly shaking. "Mama, papa? Lucia?"

Silence.

"Mama! Papa!" He called out this time louder.

They didn't actually leave him alone! Why?! Why would they?! So suddenly after returning from his best friend's gift ceremony?! Where could they have gone?

"Mama, Papa!" His mother told him not to follow them, but Fabian didn't always listen. He ran off his bed, running out of his room, to the front door, forgetting his shoes. Going across the hard rocky ground barefoot, he didn't care as he kept calling out to his parents, his sister. The cold air of the night chilled him, freezing his tear-filled eyes.

"Please! Come back! Please!" He begged, dropping down to the hard road on his knees, crying so loud he was sure the neighbors would hear. Camilo's sister could probably hear him with her own gift.

But only thoughts swirled in his head…

Why did they leave so suddenly? Why did they leave without him?

What was going on? What was happening to Lucia?

Where were they going?

When will they come back…?

But after so many days that turned to weeks, that turned to months, it seemed like they never would come back.

Nothing seemed normal anymore to Fabian after that night… Even with all of the people in the community helping to try and find his family, it was like they vanished. Completely disappeared. He told the entire village what he remembered that night, but it never helped. His family left Encanto.

Then months later, his best friend Mirabel, one of the Madrigals, didn't get her gift. A gift he was sure she was going to have, never came. Now they both felt alone and different. Nothing seemed the same.

Why? Why was this happening to them?

Those questions were left unanswered. From then to ten years later.

Fabian grew up. Ten years without his mother, his father, or his sister since that night.

The Madrigals took him in. Let him eat with them, help around the community with them, and almost treat him as one of their own. He at least had them.

And he had Mirabel too. It has also been ten years without the gift she was promised.

They both still had each other through this time. They both made each other smile and forget their worries and problems. It's because of that Fabian felt closer to Mirabel than ever. He felt connected to her and wanted to stay by her side.

With her primo Antonio's gift ceremony coming so soon now, he hoped that it would all go well for the both of them. Especially after her own gift ceremony, but always one lingering question remained in his mind.

What happened to his family?
