(the act of loving back the one
who loves you.)

24th December, 2021

LEE SI WOO was lying on the bed like a dead corpse. Her eyes were fixed, straight on the fan. It was snowing outside. The thought of getting out of her bed had not struck her and occassionally, she wrapped the blanket more tightly against her shivering body. It was dark, the lights of the room were turned off.

Did she really kiss Seo Woo yesterday?

She couldn't help but drift back to those memories. Everytime she tried to imagine it, jolts of electricity and excitement pumped inside her. That was nothing like those feverish dreams she had back at Seoul.

The way she fancied him was scaring her. The thought of a possible heartbreak had loomed around her all the time. Bitna had urged her to be brave and face her feelings. She had been quite unsuccessful to do that. A stage of denial had ultimately been followed by a serious infatuation.

She still couldn't believe how luck had favoured her. It was her first time going after a guy. A little crush that made her feel tingly and dreamy. She loved feeling that way. It made her want to look forward to every new day.

The fact she did kiss him was still unbelievable to her. It was not once, but twice. The last time, she was surely the one who literally jumped over to suck the soul out of him.

It was embarassing, as well as somewhat relieving. Bitna was right. He liked her. He really did, and his words and eyes seemed genuine. Si Woo proceeded to squeal and roll on her bed.

"Lee Si Woo! It's almost nine and I can see that you are making some alien noises." Mrs. Lee entered her room, evidently cross with how she was behaving. An open glue stick and a couple of glittery stars were in her hand, most probably some of the stuff she had brought the day before. Si Woo had not bothered going through what she had bought. She had run away with the vanilla pastries that her mother made sure to bring.

"It's a holiday, mom." she groaned. "When do I get to have a free day like this? We have exams and projects all year. Let me sleep."

"I am not buying any of that. You are totally not sleeping. Get down from your bed and come downstairs, this instant. We have many decorations to do and I don't want you to lay down all day and do nothing. Your little sister is more useful."

"Fine. I get it." Si Woo grumbled.

Mrs. Lee gave her another glare before going downstairs. Si Woo got up slowly, taking the phone immediately from the side table. She had completely forgotten about the possibilities of Seo Woo texting her.

There was no message. Only a couple from Bitna about how she slipped on a banana skin at college and embarrassed herself.

Si Woo couldn't help but think whether Seo Woo was serious the day before. Thoughts of doubt came rushing into her mind and she unknowingly bit her nails, nervously. Wasn't it a normal thing to text each other when people started dating? That's how it was for Bitna, if her memory was not making a mistake in remembering how things turned out for her.
