Playing The Phony In Oz (ONC - 2022)

~Note and Synopsis~

This is the introductory note for the readers and judges of ONC 2022.

This is my first time participating in the Open Novella Contest so... I'll do it the best I can. *smiles awkwardly*

I have chosen three prompts (for now) namely,

43. "Click your heels together three times and say 'There's no place like home'." You did just that. But where you found yourself next... it was most definitely not home.

and,

40. Rumour around the town said that the shop in the deep alley of the market is very strange. It has no sign and no customers. No one knows when it is there and precious few dare to step inside...

and,

96. "Was this a game to you?"

The story straightaway begins with the first prompt chosen, the second and third chosen prompts however will come later on in the story. As you read from the synopsis, the story is a retelling of The Wizard of Oz.

Synopsis:

Elise Chadwick is a fifteen-year-old country girl living out her life in a family ranch when an unexpected tornado hits her house and she lands in Oz. She and her dog, Biscuit, try to get back but nothing works. They're still trapped in Oz. Elise assumes the identity of a destined savior of sorts, Dorothy Gale, and fills in her role. The said savior is preordained to find the wizard of Oz and get home, but Elise isn't Dorothy. Can she ever get back home or will she remain in Oz forever?
