New Years. I never understood all the hype about it. You stay up to watch a ball drop and transition into a New Year. You cheer, drink some sort if grape drink, and watch as fireworks are set off from your neighbors' yards. Joe and I were at a party (COVID doesn't exist) with my friends and others that I didn't know. I was talking to Ellie and Georgia when the countdown started.

"11!" the crowd cheered.

"GO FIND JOE Y/N! GO! GO!" Ellie yelled over the crowd. I got up and started looking for Joe.

"10!"

"JOE?" I searched the crowd of people.

"9!"

"Y/N?" I heard Joe's familiar voice.

"8!"

I pushed through the crowd to where I heard his voice.

"7!"

"Y/n? Is that you?"

"6!"

I looked up to see Joe looking at me.

"5!"

I smiled and so did Joe.

"4!"

I put my hands around his waist.

"3!"

He took his hand and lifted my chin up towards him.

"2!"

We leaned in close to each other.

"1! HAPPY NEW YEAR!"

We leaned in and kissed each other. Party poppers went off, people were cheering and champagne bottles were being popped open. We didn't care, everything around us seemed to blur. We only focused on each other. We pulled away and there was a goofy grin plastered on each of our faces.

"Happy New Year." Joe smiled.

"Happy New Year." I smiled back. The song Hey Ya! by Outkast came on. Joe started doing funky dance.

"What are you doing?" I laughed.

"Dancing!" Joe kept doing his 'dance'.

"Do it with me! Come on!" Joe took my hand. I started doing the same 'dance'.

Now I understand all the hype on New Years.
