The bell chimed as I walked into the Chinese restaurant. Only a few tables were occupied with guests as the other tables sat vacant, waiting for hungry customers to come and occupy them.
"Table for 2 please." I said as I walked up to the check in counter. I had a date with a guy I met at a bar yesterday. His name was Jake and he was tall, handsome, and super sweet. He had asked me for my number and I gave it to him. We planned a dinner date today at a local sushi restaurant.
"Alright, follow me." the lady said as she grabbed 2 menus from underneath the podium. She walked to a table with 2 chairs sitting across from each other.
"Thank you." I smiled as I sat down in one of the seats. I pulled out the menu to start skimming over the food options.
"Hello! Welcome! May I get you started with a drink?" a shorter, female waitress asked.
"Hi! Can I have a water please?" I replied.
"Of course! And, I'm assuming you're waiting for one more?" I nodded.
"He'll just have a water as well. He should be here any minute now." I smiled as the lady walked away to get me some water.
I jittered my leg up and down as I checked my phone for the millionth time. The lady set down my water and smiled.
"Would you like to order anything yet or-"
"I'll just wait for him. Thank you though." I gave her a tight-lipped smile as she walked away.
15 minutes pass and he's not here. I've texted him twice to see if he's on his way- no reply.
The music softly played in the sushi restaurant as I sat in my thoughts. The waitress checked on me a few times, obviously feeling bad for my situation. I gave up 5 minutes later, after I didn't hear from him. I placed down my phone and slumped in my chair as I sipped my water. I zoned out, as I ponder why he didn't show up.
Suddenly, the chair in front of me moved.
It must be Jake. I thought excitedly. He must've got stuck in some killer traffic.
The traffic down here in Cincinatti can be terrible, especially now when everyone was getting off of work.
I looked up and was met with a man's face, who was not Jake.
He had short, braided hair, a scruffy beard paired with a mustache, brown eyes, a sleeve of tattoos running down his left arm, and was very cute; if I don't say so myself.
He seemed so familiar but I couldn't put a finger on who he was.
"Hey, sorry to bother you. I'm Ja'Marr. I hope it's okay that I'm sitting here. You seemed lonely so I felt like you needed some cheering up." the man, who's name is Ja'Marr, said.
"Uh, hi Ja'Marr. I'm y/n. And it's totally fine that you're sitting here. I had a date and he totally just blew me off." I sighed at the thought of this man just blowing off a date that he mostly planned.
"Oh good." he sighed but then his eyes widened at his words. "I- I mean it's good that you're letting me sit here. I- It's not good that your date blew you off. That's terrible." Ja'Marr stuttered and I gave him a small laugh.
"It's alright. I get what you mean." I smiled as the waitress came over.
"Welcome! I see you have a water, do want anything else to drink?" the waitress asked Ja'Marr. She must've thought he was my date.
"Uh no. I'm good. I'm actually ready to order if you are. I- If you're ordering anything." Ja'Marr said to the waitress and then to me.
"Oh, uh yeah, I'm ready." I said, grabbing my menu.
I ordered the restaurant's signature sushi and he ordered calamari. Ja'Marr didn't even need to look at his menu to order the food.
"So, I assume you're a frequent customer here?" I smirked as the waitress walked away.
"Yeah, actually. When I moved here last year, my friends told me about this place. I got it and ever since, I've came here like every other week." he smiled.
"Cool! This is actually my first time here. Is it any good?"
"It's very good." Ja'Marr smirked.
We chatted for hours about anything and everything we could. Even after we finished eating our food, we still talked.
"So, what do you do for a living?" Ja'Marr asked, picking at spare grains of rice from his side of rice.
"I'm actually a student here at the University of Cincinatti. I'm a senior studying biochemistry. But, I do work at a Dairy Queen." I laughed.
"What do you do?" I asked. Ja'Marr hesitated for a moment.
"I'm, uh, the wide receiver for the Cincinatti Bengals." Ja'Marr scratched the back of his neck.
Suddenly, it clicked. He was the Ja'Marr Chase. The wide receiver for the Cincinatti Bengals, my favorite team.
"Ohhhhh! That's why you looked so familiar! That's really cool, like way cooler then biochemistry." I sighed.
"Hey! Biochemistry is still very cool. Like, I could bet you could ask any NFL player one question about biochemistry and they would not have a single clue what the answer is."
"Let me guess, your one of those who couldn't guess one of them."
"You're exactly right."

We stayed for a bit longer but then decided to leave, considering it was closing in 20 minutes.
We shut the doors to the restaurant, laughing hysterically at something Ja'Marr just said.
"So you're saying that Joe, your best friend, told the entire LSU team 'by accident' that you have a kinda creepy obsession with Lady Gaga?" I laughed at the story Ja'Marr had just told me.
"Yup! I love that man with all my heart but God do I wanna kill his ass sometimes." he laughed as we reached my car in the parking lot.
We stood at my car door for a second, enveloped in an awkward silence.
"Well, this was fun." I said, interrupting the silence.
"Yeah. It was." Ja'Marr gave me a small smile. Ja'Marr sat there, seemingly contemplating something in his mind.
"Can I get your number? I- If you want to obviously." Ja'Marr stuttered.
I pulled out my phone and gave it to him.
"Here. Text me anytime. I would love to hangout again, considering I had a blast." I smiled as Ja'Marr typed his number into my phone.
"Well that's good. Considering I had a blast too." he said, handing the phone back to me. We turned opposite directions when I decide to call his name.
"Hey, Ja'Marr." he turned to see me looking at him.
"I'm kinda glad my date didn't show up." I said, a small smile tugging at my lips. Ja'Marr's face turned into a wide grin.
"Me too y/n, me too."
