Why do people say "I would die for you"?

It's never made sense to me. It's very easy to die. This world has few things worth living for in it anyway. To say you would die for someone isn't that much of a feat. It's to say "I care so much that I'm going to let go and force you to live on with out me knowing you're the cause of my demise".
Instead I think we should start saying "I would live for you". Because in my eyes it takes so much more strength and will power to continue through for only the sake of a loved one, than it would to just give up.

Anyone can die but not anyone can live for a sole reason.
