TW! S/H, Dysfunctional Families, and Trauma experiences
'My turn for the Personal Experience presentation is coming up.' Cat took a deep breath. 'Let's just hope no one asks any questions.'
The teacher called his name for his time to present. Cat was hesitant, yet he stood up and ran with being in front of everyone in the classroom.
"Let us start from the beginning. My name is Cat Brown and I've suffered from Self Harm since a young age." He turns to John with worry. The other young man gives him a smile and thumbs-up.
"Self harm is a very heavy topic to be chatting about. I won't put anyone, but I do believe that more than one, including myself, has self harmed for any reason in particular.
Fighting, yelling, crying, things being broken, people getting hurt, parents death, friends death, and more may have caused some of these issues within this classroom. Even the idea of someone saying; 'Show your wrists' then right after calling you 'Emo', a 'Fag', 'Worthless', etc. If I'm being honest, it's annoying and tiring to hear many parts to any of that."
He took a pause before looking around.
"I will say this now. We need to stop shaming someone for not understanding other ways they can get help. Now before you say 'Oh but there's mental hospitals for that.' Not all of the time will that help, or even work. Many people cannot speak to others or ask for help. It causes them to be scared, uncomfortable, or cause them to neglect others and hide in their room. Plenty of this can also come from a dysfunctional family.
A dysfunctional family is not speaking, or even having disputes 24/7. The silence hurts for anyone to speak up, without feeling like they will be shamed or harmed. It's upsetting. I would know."
