Bella
The next day Axe didn't come in, he was still sick.
At the end of the school day, I went to his house again. I walked in like I did yesterday and his parents weren't home again.
I went straight to his room, knocking. No answer.
I walked in but he was asleep.
I left downstairs and got a glass of water for him. I placed it on his bedside table before going home.
My mum decided to make cakes.
But for one reason, I had to take them next door and give them to Axe to 'make him feel better' in her words. How would a cupcake make him feel better?
I carried the box of cupcakes next door. This time I knocked on the door since his parents were now home.
The door opened quickly like they knew I was coming.
"Come in, come in. Axe is upstairs"
"Oh I just came to"
She cut me off by pushing me through the house, my shoes still on, she obviously didn't care right now.
"He's in his room like usual"
She pushed me to the stairs, practically forcing me to go up.
I did.
The upstairs was quiet. I gently knocked on his bedroom door, in case he was asleep again.
"Come in"
I pushed the door open to see him watching tv. He didn't look sick anymore, maybe he doesn't need the cakes.
"Cake?" I asked as I handed him the box. He doesn't have a choice.
"They're ugly" He mumbled but loud enough to let me hear.
"Like you" I mumbled back.
"My mum made them, didn't have a choice. Bye now"
I left his room just missing whatever he threw at me. It ended up hitting the door instead.

Not to be dramatic but I got horrible news the next day at school.
It was Wednesday meaning I had my life course lessons, unluckily Axe was in that lesson.
Mr Woodlock stood at the front of the class, it was nearly the end of the lesson.
"Before you all pack away and get ready to leave, I have a week project for you all"
Groans came from everyone in the room, expecting a homework booklet or something.
"You'll be working in partners for this, no you don't get to pick" he answered the question before anyone asked.
I didn't care who I'd be partnered with.
As long as it wasn't him
A slide came up on the board, a list of everyone's name and their partner.
I didn't check the names yet, still watching sir as he spoke, explaining the project.
"This is the baby project you've all been waiting for"
He pulled up a bag of flour decorated as a baby
"each pair will get one of these babies, you'll take care of it like it's your own. It breaks and you fail. You'll need to take the baby out to places with your partner so it doesn't get bored, I'll like you to take pictures and record these down in your work journal"
