We made it to the new century with very minimal Deviant activity, woohoo! After Rome, we only moved once more, to Jerusalem. We had received news of a world-changing birth happening and we just had to be there. We snuck into the inn, disguised as shepherds and wisemen, to watch a very young girl give birth in the hay. It was gross.
"Jesus christ! I am never doing that," I had whispered to Druig.
"That's too bad, we would make some cute kids," he replied.
"Can we even have kids? I feel like Arishem would frown on that."
He shrugged.
"Doesn't mean we can't practice," I snickered.
"You're really thinking about sex right now?"
"How do you think that happened?" I questioned, gesturing towards Mary.
"Rumour has it she's a virgin."
"There is no way, it's not biologically possible."
"Never underestimate the power of God, milady."
I rolled my eyes.
Skip ahead thirty years and that baby grew up to be a wizard. He would perform miracles that everyone said was because his daddy was God, but I knew better. That whole story about him turning water to wine: that was Sersi, he just stole credit.
"I can't tell if he's delusional and actually thinks a God is talking to him, or if he's a scam artist using magic. Either way, I hate it," I complained, watching from afar as this Jesus person "healed" the sick.
"He's pretty remarkable," Phastos commented.
"Don't tell me you have a crush on Jesus?" I groaned, grabbing his arm.
"No, just admiration."
"Well, don't goggle too long, the Romans will have a fit."
The Roman Empire had grown rapidly after the death of Caesar and the slaying of Deviants. They were everywhere and there was no escaping those blood red tunics and rusty armor.
"Which do you think they find more unnatural, my powers or my sexuality?"
I shrugged. "Only one is of use to them, so probably sexuality. I hope someday it's safe for us to exist freely, as our whole selves."
"Humanity will advance in time. Someday, I'll have a husband, maybe a kid."
"Can I be the cool, rich aunt who your kid likes better than you?" I squealed.
He chuckled. "I wouldn't want it any other way."
"Another thing I hope they advance is their fashion," I said, adjusting my tunic. "I feel like I've been wearing the same cotton or wool frock since we arrived on this planet."
"You don't have to wear the clothes of the time, there's always your Eternals' garb," he replied, smoothing out his own suit.
"Then I stick out like a sore thumb."
He raised a brow.
"Not that you don't look absolutely amazing in it!" I covered, smiling brightly.
"Mmmhmm."
It seemed Jesus had completed his miracle work for the day and was now taking a leisurely stroll through the village, shaking hands and kissing babies. The audacity of this man.
"I'll see you later, Phastos. I'm gonna make a new friend."
"Don't do anything stupid!" he called after me as I followed after the man with no father.
