~Hailey's POV~
I woke up to the cold morning air dancing over my body. It was colder than usual, which meant that winter was just around the corner. Which would make finding food and water harder to find. And I was already low on food as it was. Only having a small bag of squirrel jerky and a bottle of semi-clean water.Dropping to the ground, my feet hit the dirt, making dust surround the bottom of my legs. Swirling in the air up to my face. I coughed slighty before making my way to the small brook, patting my legs from the dirt as I walked. Once I got to the brook, I knelt down to the dirty water. When I had first set up camp here the brook was full of fresh, clean, blue water. But over the past year, it rained less and less, making the brook dry up quicker and quicker as the days past by. The water now was still clean, but it was murky, the mud at the bottom slowly mixing in. Bending down with my plastic water bottle, filling it up half way, as much as I could. Once a put the cap back on, I stood back up, brushing my pants once again before heading for west. I don't really know why I chose to go west, I've just always liked west

A few hours later, I made it to a small hill, surrounded by tall trees, making it impossible to see what was up there. Z's or humans. Pulling my bow in front off me, I got ready for the worst. There was a small school there that I once scavenged before and I knew that there was still food there, but I hadn't been for a long time, so I didn't get my hopes up. Even though I really wanted food to be there. Finally, I made it to the hill, immediately seeing two people talking. One was a red-headed girl, maybe a few years older than me, and an older man with a white beard. I ducked down the the ground, making sure they wouldn't see me. The smell of dirt in my nose. They seemed to be okay until two zombies appeared, jumping onto the two strangers. They seemed to both struggle. Both not being able to get a good shot at the Z's. I sighed into the dirt, knowing what I had to do. Though I didn't want to, nobody deserves to turn into one of those......monsters.
I stood up, pulling an arrow from the holster, I breathed deep before letting go, the arrow flying through the air and hitting the zombie straight through its temple. Just as the arrow hit the zombie, the other Z immediately got hit with a bullet, leaving a giant hole in the Z's face. Looking from where the bullet came from, I saw a shadowed figure quickly move out of view.
I knew I had blown my cover so I walked over to the group, still holding my bow just in case something bad happened. The red-haired girl laid on the floor, pushing the zombie of of her. The side of her face splattered with crimson blood, already drying in the sun. Turning a deep rust color. I held out my hand for the girl to take, which she instantly took. She stood up from the ground, wiping her pants off that were slighty covered with dried blood and dirt. The older man walked up to her, handing her a small rag and smiled, patting her on the back before turning his attention over to me. He smiled big, immediately putting his hand out. Hesitatly, I shook it. My face still. Not trusting them.
"Thanks for your help sister! You're a lifesaver." I awkwardly smiled to him, resting my hand on my side, letting my fingers dangle over my hachet that attached to my leg.
"I'm Doc, This is Addy..." He said, pointing to the red-haired girl standing next to her. She smiled to me before walking away towards other people who walked out from the building. A dark-skined women, an older man, a man with blonde hair, and in the corner were a military man and a older man who leaned against the wall behind him. This man caught my attention. He looked like he hadn't slept for 1,000 years, large dark circles showed under his eyes, his skin had darkish purple splotches all over, like somebody had hit him multiple times. Following Doc over to the group, he introduced me to the rest.
"Warren here is the leader." he whispered to me, the older man looked at him and laughed.
"I can hear you y'know." Doc just laughed and moved over to the next person.
