  ~Hailey's POV~
————————————————————
I looked out at the small living room window, the darkened sky loomed over the house that we had bunked in just a few hours ago. It was small, but I guess it was better than nothing. Though, really anything at this point in time is better than nothing at all. Garrnet and Warren sat on the porch taking watch, while the rest of us took safety inside the house. Doc stood in the kitchen with Murphy, who tried to take bites out of the food until Doc would swat his hand away. Addy quickly grabbed Macks hand, running up the creaky stair and into one of the closest rooms. Knowing what they were about to do, I turned back to the window; I did not want to think about that.

10k and Cassandra sat in the living room with me. 10k who sat in a old recliner and Cassandra who laid on the large couch, taking up most of it as she drifted off to a light slumber. Leaving me to take a small wooden chair next to the couch, which leaned up against the dusty window. I had sat there for a while, listening to the soft wind outside and the light snoring of Cassandra on the couch.

"Hey Hailey?" I heard a soft whisper behind me, making turn my head. It was 10k, who set down the magazine he was reading slighty.
"Yeah?" He got up from his chair and made his way towards me, squatting down to reach my level as I still sat on my old wooden chair, my eyebrows knitting together.

"Why did-" His sentence got caught shot.

"Hey, girlie? Can you bring me that." I turned around to see Murphy leaning over the kitchen counter, pointing at a smushed granola bar that laid on the coffee table in front of me. I rolled my eyes and leaned over, picking up the bar. I chucked it hard at him, hitting him right in the nose. He grabbed at his nose, groaning in pain as he picked up the bar. I smirked before turning back around on the chair, sitting down on my butt, my elbows planted on my thighs.

"What the hell was that for?!?" He yelled between gritted teeth, rubbing the bridge of his nose before glaring at me. I just glared back, making sure not to break the angered eye contact.
"I said, not to call me that." I gave him a sarcastic smile before making it fall.

"Please. You know you like it." Making me even more angry. At him. At everyone. Even at the world. Standing up, I pushed past 10k, grabbing my bow in my left hand, making my way into the kitchen, towards the back door which was boarded up loosely with oak wood planks. Quickly, before walking past the kitchen, I grabbed a clear glass, chucking towards Murphy. He couldn't catch it in time, leading the glass to fall down on the tiled floor. Cracking and breaking all over his feet. Pieces of glass scattered around, sharp and dangerous.

"The hell?!" I just shrugged him away, too angry to really care about what he felt or thought. I just walked past, slamming the door behind me. Only hearing soft mumbles from back inside and pieces of glass clinking together. I sat down in a old lawn chair. Sqeaking and creaking from not being used in years.

I put my bow down on my lap, twisting and pulling at the string, making it tighter then looser then tighter again. Air left my nose angrily as I started to hum a tune. I always did this when I was angry, it calmed me every time no matter how angry I was.

Close your eyes.
Come with me.
Where it's clean and green and pretty.
And they went and made a city outa clay...
Why the minute that ya get there,
Folks'll walk right up and say,
"welcome home son, welcome home to Santa Fe!"
Plantin' crops
Splittin' rails
Swappin' tales around the fire
'Cept for Sunday, where you lie around all day.
Soon your friends are more like family, and they's beggin you to stay!
Ain't that neat?
Livin' sweet
In Santa Fe....

I whispered in a hushed voice, but before I could sing any more, I heard a soft cough come from next to me. I jerked my head in the direction, my nose scrunched up slighty from anger...and embarrassment that someone had caught me singing. When I saw who it was, 10k, I relaxed a little bit. Not a whole lot, but enough for him to step closer. I turned my head away from him ad he walked closer, careful not to make me more mad.

"How long have you been standing there?" I asked in an annoyed tone, making him step back, slighty stuttering at his words as he rubbed his neck again.

"Oh, I-I haven't been here long....I-I've been here since you started singing." He admitted, his eyes looking down to his feet. My head leaned slightly, before he shot up, his hands out to me.
"Not...I didn't mean to. I just wanted to talk to you is all." I sighed, putting my bow down against my chair. Nodding to the other lawn chair next to me, he quickly made his way over to me.

"Shoot."
"I- um okay...." He trailed off for a moment.
"Come on now, I don't got all day here." I put my hands and the bars to the seat as he sighed.
"About why, why you got so mad at seeing Doc's..um- "dead body." I mean it's not like he's actually dead. He's in the kitchens right now." I scoffed. Of course he just had to bring that up. I rolled my eyes before looking at him.

"You don't have to, I just wanted-"
"No, no it's fine." I pointed to him for a moment before looking at him again. My face blank, no emotion.

"Look.... you care about people. Let alone just trust them, they end up dying. And you, you're the one who gets hurt. You're the one who has to survive knowing that they ain't gonna be there no more. You see, you may even have to mercy them. The person that earned your trust, has to get killed—mercied, by you. Now, you have to bring the walls back up, right after you had just brought them down...." I stopped for a while, looking down at my fingers, twiddling them on the metal bars of the chair. He didn't say anything either. Just sat there in the chair in front of me.

"Oh." Was all he said when he did finally speak up. I looked up to him, his eyes looked off to the side, almost luke he was scared to look at me. Scared at what I was going to say.

"Yeah... "oh." is right." He stood up and sighed. Making his way back to the door. When he opened it up, he stopped.
"Hey Hailey?" He looked at me as I brought my bow back into my hands. I sighed again.

"Yeah?"
"I-...nevermind." He said and closed the door behind him. I looked back to my bow and chuckled to myself.

""Oh." he says." I shook my head and stood up. Making my way to the door. Just as my hand hovered over the doorknob, It opened with a snap. It was Doc, his face slighty ridden with worry and fear.

"We gotta go. Storm's a brewin'." He said as he ran back though the house, making sure to grab his med bag and extra food, his hammers in his pockets.

I quickly made my way through the house, grabbing my quiver of arrows, my canvas bag, and a jacket I found in one of the closets. As I reached the front door to leave, loud steps came from the stairs. Addy and Mack ran down, fixing their clothes and grabbing their weapons that lay on tables. I ran out, leaving the door open for them to leave as well. And as I hopped into the back of the truck, the wind began to pick up, making us, and the zombies that walked around us sway aggressively.

"Let's go!" Warren yelled to Addy and Mack as they exited the house, closing the door behind and running towards the truck, getting into the back with me, Cassandra, and 10k. Hitting the side of the truck, we set off in a hurry, dodging Z's and tires that bounced dowm the road.

A few minutes later, after bumping over everything, we had finally made it into a small neighborhood. Which had bushes all cut and layed out in rows. House all looked the same, just the colors were different. All spread out along a street that ended at a circle. We stopped at the start of the street, getting out to look around. But Warren, she started to walk in a random direction. Or, familiar direction for her.

"Shelter's this way." Warren said.
"How do you know?" I asked, walking behind her with the others.
"I grew up here. Born and raised. My house isn't far, we can take shelter in the basement." I looked to the others for any sign of acknowledgment, but when they just shrugged, I sighed and shook my head, turning back to the street we walked down.
God I hope I'm doing the right thing...
