Mia stood in surgery, it was her first time in heart surgery and she was excited, she was excited over it all.
Mia knew that she wanted to do well. She knew that she was an intern and she knew who her sister was but she didn't want to get by on Addie, she wanted to get by on her own and she knew that she wanted dr Burke to respect her.
Mia looked to the heart that she was holding as she felt herself nod off slightly. She knew that she had done a lot of hours that week and she knew that she was tired.
"What was that Dr. Montgomery" Burke asked as he noticed
"Sorry, it slipped. My hands" Mia said As she looked to the heart
"It's okay, I'm done. You can release Mrs. Patterson's heart now. Very gently. All right. Let's warm her up. Get her off bypass" Burke said
"Temperature?" Burke asked
"She's at 96 and rising" a doctor said
"She should be doing this on her own" burke said as He strokes the heart and it Flat line
"C'mon, Mrs. Patterson. Paddles" Burke said
"Sets are below 90"
"Charge"
"10 joules. Clear. C'mon Mrs. Patterson. Give me 20" burke said
"Charge"
"There, we have rhythm. Reluctant heart. All right. Let's close. Keep an eye on her. Good work, everyone" burke said as Mia looked to the heart and then to her nail that had ripped her surgical glove and frowned

Derek walked through the hallway eating a salad as he saw Mia as he caught up to her as Esmè followed behind
"Hey, I hear you did a CABG with Burke" he asked as Mia smiled
"yeah"
"Did you get to hold the heart?" He asked
"yeah"
"It's an amazing feeling. You never forget your first time" Derek said
"it was pretty great just to watch. Vicarious thrills, you know?" Esmè said as she looked to her sister
"yeah" Mia siad as Elevator bell rings as esme and Meredith get in. She looks out of it. Derek stands outside the elevator, looking concerned.
He knew Mia well enough to know when there was something bothering her especially seeing how uninterested that she seemed in heart surgery
"See you later" Derek said
"Bye" Mia said as the Elevator doors close. Esmè and Mia are alone.
Esmè is reading a medical book leaning on the wall as Mia stood with her arms crossed, facing the door
"I think maybe I did something to the heart when I was holding it. I nodded off a little. Squeezed it" Mia said
