Three weeks had passed since the birth of Kate's daughter, It was a long three weeks. Kate had gotten used to their system of going to the nicu, she hated the feeling of coming home without Josie but she had adjusted to it and remembered it wasn't permanent.

Which it wasn't, Josie was home and safe and the engaged couple experienced their first few nights with a new born.. both were exhausted, but appreciating that Josie was home.

Josie was still sleeping thankfully. Kate couldn't keep her eyes off of her, Kate had woken up every hour just to make sure that Josie was breathing

Kate felt bucks hand wrap around her shoulder "you should get some sleep, you've been checking on her all night"

"I'm worried something might happen" Kate mumbled, still staring at the three week old

"She's healthy Kate, doctor wouldn't have sent her home if she wasn't" buck tried to reassure

He understood why she was so worried, Kate had already lost so much in her life and was still recovering from the scare of early labour, he just wished that she would get some sleep

"I'm fine, I'm gonna get some coffee" Kate said, she walked out of their room and heard the faint sound of chimney - yes he was still living in their apartment despite their new born - he was talking to Maddie

"The doctor said one cup a day." Maddie protested through the screen

"Mmm coffee" Kate sighed, pouring what felt like liquid gold into her cup

"Yeah, well, she's the doctor. Not the parent."

"What's going on?" Kate asked, sipping her coffee

"Chimney thinks I shouldn't drink coffee"

"Chimney" Kate started "Coffee is the one good thing we have in those 9 months of nausea, aching bones, swelling feet, changing body and god knows what else." She  argued for Maddie

"Kate do you want to move back in" Maddie joked

Kate laughed, she and Maddie had grown closer during quarantine the two were like sister by now, that's not including the fact that would soon be in laws.

Small cries were heard from the distant room, Kate groaned and put down her cup

"I got it" buck said, walking away

"How's parenthood?" Maddie asked

"Exhausting" Kate sighed, "she's barely slept and even she is sleeping I'm worried she's not breathing so I'm not sleeping"

Buck walked into the kitchen, Josie cradled in his arms, "okay, but doesn't her face make it all worth it"

Kate was silent, she drank from her cup "sure" she muttered

"You see, we should be enjoying this before we turn into them"

Kate chuckled, "chimney, it's safe you should go home to your girlfriend. Enjoy being with each other before a baby is brought into the picture"

"Than the fun really begins" buck joked,

"God she looks so cute" Maddie gushed, "I can not wait to meet her"

...

Kate was just feeling her eyes drift when the ground shook beneath her, she quickly stood from the bed and noticed that Josie wasn't in her crib.

The mini quakes had been happening all week, Kate was more worried what they were leading to but she had grown used to the earth shaking in La, she improved a lot since her first earthquake. They were still always scary but not panic attack inducing
