Despite her best efforts not to, Kate had soon fallen asleep after her labour and delivery. She was given pain medication which came with the exhaustion that made her sleep

Buck hadn't left her side, he couldn't. He was too worried about her. Buck was barely a father, but when their daughter was rushed off to the nicu, he felt this unbearable weight of worry. He felt like he could die with the worry.

That was until She was okay to be seen, now buck stood over the incubator staring down at this baby that he suddenly felt this... indescribable love for. It felt so strong it hurt at times

"Your momma is going to be so happy to see you"

"You did good in there today" someone spoke, buck glanced behind him and noticed the nurse from earlier

"She did it all" he shook his head

"I've seen a lot of woman go through labour, I've seen a lot of husbands help. But I also always seen them take a break, sit down get a drink of water. You didn't leave her side for the entire 4 hours, you let her squeeze your hand white. And when it came to it, you reassured her because she needed more than you did in the moment. You are gonna make a great father"

"A couple years ago, uh- we were both in fire truck the exploded. I was thrown from it and for stuck underneath it, she was still inside and climbed out - despite her wounds and the fact that a bullet almost hit her. She passed out for 2 minutes, when she woke up on the ground in agony - she seen me and she took my hand and despite her pain she reassured me of everything." He explained, it was core memory for him

"So is that What your doing? squeezing her hand despite your own pain"

"Shes already lost a baby" buck shrugged slightly "she needs to know she won't lose another one"

The nurse smiled warmly, "she's waking up now. You'll probably be the first person she'll wanna see"

Buck nodded, he followed the nurse to their room.

Kate grunted quietly, the bright light of the hospital room straining her eyes as she woke up, her eyes sore from tears she had shed about not seeing her daughter

"Hey" buck said softly, "how you feeling"

"Sore" she mumbled, taking bucks help as she sat up ""Is she okay?" Kate asked

"She's okay, she has to stay here for a few weeks"

"Oh god" Kate croaked, "I have to leave without her"

Buck sat on the edge of the bed, he opened his arms and Kate leaned into him "the main thing is, the baby is okay. She's alive and breathing, and so are you"

"Are you okay?" Kate looked at him

"I.. I never really understood how you felt about Sam and I don't I will truly understand but when she was taken away today, that fear of losing her - it was enough to almost end me." He described

"But she's okay?" Kate asked again, her mind making up a million worries at once "I'm sorry.. I can't- my brain is-.."

"It's okay, I know. Why don't we go see her"

"Yes" Kate exasperated

The nurse helped Kate into a wheelchair, Kate's pain wasn't too bad but she assumed that was because of the pain killers
