Kate watched as a bullet shot into the Latinos chest, blood splattering across bucks face, she felt like she couldn't breathe. Eddie stood still for a few seconds, his eyes were blank and his face was plain, as if it didn't happen

Kate felt her body get pulled to the ground, another bullet ricocheting off the truck.

"No" she mumbled, barely making a sound, her eyes glued to eddies fading body.

"You need to stay down,"

Kate barely blinked, watching as the pool of blood grew around him.

She wasn't used to this. Everytime she thought she overcame the fear of las angles, something else happened.

But it was different. It was Eddie, it was her friend. Her best friend.

Kate was barely lucid. So much so, she barely reacted to Evan - her fiancé, the father of her child running into open fire to drag eddies frail and bleeding body to the truck.

Everything was moving so quickly but so slowly, and Kate could barely see a thing beyond her blurred vision.

It was only when she blinked, she realised she was crying.

Kate finally came out of the disassociation, buck was calling for her to move.

To please just move.

Kate climbed into the truck, Eddie was barely conscious. Buck was frantically trying to save as much of him as possible.

The speedy ride to the hospital - although broke every speed limit, felt so painfully slow.

How did this happen? Who did this? Why did they do this?

And would they do it again.

It was barely minutes before they arrived at the hospital, doctors met them at the doors. Taking Eddie away before they could even explain what happened.

And all this time, Kate was frozen. Her best friend was bleeding out and all she could do was stare, stare and hope for a miracle.

"Kate"

Kate blinked, she looked focused on buck. Half his face was splattered with some blood; his shirt too.

"I uh.. I-.."

"Are you okay?"

Kate shook a little, her brain was mush.

"Me?" She asked, some emotion finally found itself on her words.

"Yes, this isn't-..

"You're the one who just-.. I didn't even know want you just did"

Kate had her time to freeze up, she froze up and now she needed to melt. She needed to be there for buck.

Kate pulled herself from her thoughts completely, "I'm okay, are you? Whatever you feel right now, don't hold back"

Kate held a certain assertiveness behind her tone, but if she didn't try and sound it, her voice would have given her away.

Buck felt his back fall against the truck, he slid down and landed on the hard concrete, quiet sobs escaping him

Kate sat down beside him, she linked her arm with his and her hugged into, crying into her shoulder. Kate felt tears brim her own eyes, she let a few fall but vowed to keep it together for bucks sake

________

Buck and Kate walked into their spare room, it had been set up for Christopher earlier that day.
