'Best friends forever'- what a lie.

Arya:

"ISSAC MOORE!"

My shout reverberated through the house as I furiously knocked on Isaac's door, tapping my foot impatiently as I waited for him to answer.

" 'Sup Arya?" He yawned, leaning heavily on the edge of the door. His hair stuck up at awkward angles and his eyes were practically closed. Dried tear tracks gleamed on his cheeks.

My anger evaporated instantly as I took in his haggard state. "Aww, Izzy, what's wrong?"

He rubbed his eyes. "It's my Mum, Ree... s-she's getting worse."

I sucked in a sharp breath. "Oh Izzy..."

"I- I went to visit her earlier today- bought a bunch of sunflowers because they symbolise happiness and stuff like that. B-but when I got there, I found out that she's probably not going to make it." His voice faded into a quiet whisper at the end, tears streaming down his crumpled face.

I stepped forward and hugged him. A strangled sob pushed forward past his lips and he buried his head in my neck. I stroked his back and allowed him to release all his worries and fears. Sometimes, all you need is a good cry.

Finally, he pulled away and pressed his fingers to his eyes. He took five deep breaths before nodding and looking at me. "I- I think I'm okay now, thanks... Anyways, what did you want?"

"Oh, it's nothing too important," I waved my hand nonchalantly, "it's just that I saw I got a job offer from your company and I'm assuming it was a mistake-"

"It wasn't," Issac shrugged.

My eyes narrowed. "What?"

"It wasn't a mistake. I want you to work with me."

I scowled. "Issac, I told you before, I want nothing to do with your illegal businesses-"

"I know, don't worry. This business is the legal one. It deals with the export and import of valuable goods- like paintings and pieces of pottery that are ridiculously expensive." He sighed. "Look, Ree, I know you can get a job on your own- you're an amazing, smart woman and any company would be lucky to have you. But the thing is, on your resumé, it says that you are a secondary school dropout. Now I know that it's because of the whole kidnapping thing- which, again, I am sorry about- and I know that you're like ten times smarter than anyone else in the class. I need someone I can trust in the business and I honestly can't think of anyone better than you."

"I- okay." I conceded with a small smile, my heart warming at the compliment. "Thanks, Izzy."

"How many times have I told you not to call me that?" He lightly punched my arm.

"Aw, you know you you love it," I cooed, ruffling up his hair. "Alright, I'm going to the store to buy some food for Sparklemuffin. You want anything?"

"Can you get a couple of notebooks please? Oh and we need a new fire extinguisher."

"Why do we need a new- you know what? I'm not even going to ask." I raised my palms and walked out of the room, closing the door behind me.

"GOING OUT!" I screamed, grabbing the house keys. "I'LL BE BACK IN A BIT!"

"IF YOU'RE NOT BACK IN FIFTEEN MINUTES, I'M ORGANISING A WOMANHUNT!" Ethan yelled back. He'd become increasingly protective over all of us- especially after the little brick warning we got.

I chuckled and sauntered down the familiar path towards the store. A cool breeze washed over me and I shivered slightly, quickening my pace. There were few people out so the walk was mercifully quiet. I allowed myself to relax and enjoy the quiet chirping of birds and quick scurrying of animals foraging for food.

'This is nice.' I thought, allowing an easy smile to lift my lips.

I jinxed it.

A hand clamped on my shoulder and pulled me back. I ungracefully hit the floor and did a very undignified swivel to see my attacker. I caught a glimpse of a big burly person dressed in all black before a hard punch was thrown at my face, making my head snap to the side. Blood dripped down from my mouth and I coughed. I was disorientated, but refused to go down without a fight. I screamed as loud as I could, regretting the fact I'd chosen to take the route with no people. I scratched, kicked and bit the attacker, who was cursing violently.

"LET GO OF ME!" I tried kicking them between the legs, but they managed to dodge the hit successfully.

Attacker managed to press a white cloth to my nose and I tried holding my breath. My lungs burned for air. My eyes watered. I shook my head desperately. Finally, I could not hold it in. I inhaled deeply. My eyes rolled to the back of my head and my limbs went limp.

"I'm sorry." I heard Attacker mumble before the world dissolved into a blanket of black.
