A young girl around two years old walks between two people. On her left, a man, he has shoulder length dark brown hair and blue eyes that shine in the light. On the girls right there is a young woman appearing to be around eighteen years old. The woman has blonde hair, just like the little girl, the woman has blue eyes just like the man.
The three of them look happy together as they walk through a field, golden hours of the day shining against their faces- and most notably the man's metal arm. They walk towards a facility the girl knows well, the Red Room. The man says, "You ready to go to sleep Lena?"
"Only if you and Mommy sing the special song."
"Of course anything for our little girl," the woman replies.
"As long as she stays little and cute forever," the man says as he lifts her up upon his shoulders.
"But Dad thats not possible."
The demeanor shifts as the man lifts the toddler off of his shoulders and places her on the ground in front of him. He holds her wrists at her sides and starts to speak, "There is one thing that I want you to always remember ok," the girl nods and he continues, "you are smart, strong, and capable of great things in this world. Nothing is impossible as long as you have hope. Some people are very bad. Just over there where I am pointing, those people are very bad. You need to understand that nothing is impossible when you put your mind to it. You are Yelena Winnifred Barnes- despite those who will say otherwise- and you have the ability to change the world. Ok sweetie? You got it?"
The little girl giggles and says, "Yes Daddy, I understand."
"Good," the blonde woman replies.
The three people continue to walk, this time with the man carrying the little girl. The trio enter a building and the two adults and child are cuffed and led to their room. It's more like a cell, but a room sounds more comforting. The guards throw the adults into the room. The floor is concrete with a variety of blood stains on the floor there is no furniture and no blankets. Just before the man begins to close the door, the woman says, "wait, ten more minutes please."
"Whatever," the guard replies shoving the blonde toddler into the horrid room. She lets out a groan as she lands on the lap of the man with the metal arm.
"You alright pumpkin?"
"I'm fine dad."
The woman started to sing with an angelic voice as she laid her head upon the man's chest, the little girl glows in happiness as she positions herself comfortably in the man's lap both of the adults wrapping their arms around the girl as if she it the most delicate thing in the world. The woman sang, "A long long time ago, I could still remember how that music used to make me smile, and I knew if I had my chance that I could make those people dance and maybe they'd be happy for a while," the man joins in and they sing, "but February made me shiver, with every paper I'd deliver, bad news on the door step, I couldn't take one more step. And I can't remember if I cried when I read about his widowed bride, something touched me deep inside the day the music died..." The girl started to flutter her eyes and eventually let them close as the two older people continued the song.
"So bye bye miss American Pie drove my Chevy to the Levy but the levee was dry them good old boys were drinking whiskey and Rye singing this'll be the day that I die, this'll be the day that I die."
And just like that, Yelena Belova woke up...
