Dixie's POV-

I was jolted awake as the door to our room closed and Noah walked in. "I just went to grab water baby." He said at a whisper.. but must've been loud enough to startle Kinnley who was in the bassinet beside the bed. Her faint little cries were so adorable as she started squirming around in her swaddle.

"Shhh you're ok my love, don't cry." I said as I reached over to pick her up. "Daddy was too loud wasn't he." I whispered while laying her across my chest after taking her layers off. Noah giggled at the foot of the bed, making his way around to set his things down. her cries went faint after she latched onto me, her little body cuddled up against me with her hand resting on my chest.

Noah laid beside me putting one of his hands on Kinnley's back. Within seconds I heard a very high pitched scream coming from the baby as she felt cold hands on her skin. "Baby oh my god I'm sorry." Noah said, as I was trying to latch her back on. "Sweetheart you're ok, come on let's try again," I told her while adjusting my position. Nursing was the one thing that could calm her down instantly, but became difficult when you had a screaming newborn in your arms.

Noah could tell I was frustrated, which is why I think he didn't say anything in the moment. He truly felt bad for making the baby cry, but didn't know what else to do as she was in my arms. I held the back of Kinnley's head, easing her towards me as she latched and found a proper suckling pattern. I let the tears fall from my eyes, all the emotions spilling out.

"Shhh don't cry babe, I'm so sorry." Noah said. I couldn't respond, I didn't have the words. This was becoming more difficult by the second and it hasn't even been a day. "Look she's eating again, everything's ok. Take deep breaths baby." Noah added on, kissing my forehead and rubbing my shoulder. I did as he said and took some long deep breaths, lowering my heart rate.

6:40 am ~

We should be going home tonight.. Since Kinnley was born almost a month early, the doctors wanted to keep an eye on her just for precaution. I'm so thankful we had the nursery finished well before her arrival, so at least we have some things prepared. My mom and Charli are heading over to our house later to organize everything which will help a lot. Most of the clothing I had purchased or had been gifted will be way too big for Kinn, as she was swimming in the sleeper I put her in last night. I'll send Noah out on a hunt to find some clothes for the time being this afternoon.

Dr. Steff came in the room around 6:45 am with a crying Kinnley. They took her for some tests early this morning as I wanted them done as soon as possible. "Hey Dixie, sorry to wake you.. do you have her pacifier in here?" She said while rocking the baby in her arms. "No worries, and yes here you go." I replied handing her the pacifier that she finally took last night. "Alrighty, well this next test we're doing she needs to be asleep for.. could you hold her while I update her profile?" Steff asked me. "Yeah of course." I replied, taking Kinn from her arms and holding the pacifier in place with my finger.

"If she doesn't fall asleep with that, nursing might be the best option." She told me, bringing a chair over to the left side of the bed. As her mother of only a day, I knew the pacifier wasn't going to put her to sleep. I've done crazy research on baby products.. what works, what doesn't, what to do and what not etc.. I decided to give in and nurse her as she'd be asleep instantly.

"Her hips and joints all look great, rotating normally. All her 20 digits are functioning great, and any cry we've heard is no indication of pain." She told me. "Everything looks great though!! She'll gain an even weight soon, and she's definitely getting enough food so good job on that end mama." Dr Steff said while chuckling. "Is there any sort of pattern I should have her on with nursing? Right now it's only when she's hungry but I don't know if that's right?" I asked while massaging Kinnley's little head. "That's great to hear. You'll develop more of a pattern in a couple weeks time, but for now just every few hours like you've been doing." She replied.

I unlatched my sleeping angel and re-wrapped her up in the swaddle her aunty got. I slipped in the pacifier so she wouldn't freak out and kissed her itty bitty nose ever so gently. "I love you my baby." I said to her. I handed her back to Dr. Steff who slowly walked out of the room.

~~~~~~
Around an hour later Noah came through the door with a few bags in his hands. "Target?" I asked him. "Yes and your mom." He replied with a smile. "Oh my god what did she get!" I said while laughing. He set the bags down on the bed and I started going through them like a little girl on Christmas morning. "Noah look at this, I'm gonna cry!" I said laying all the little outfits in my lap. "Can I pick the one we put her in to go home?" Noah asked. "Yes of course baby." I replied leaning over to kiss him.
He decided on a long sleeve onesie which was mostly white with some roses, as well as some pink leggings and a pink hat which had her name on it. "I'm gonna end up crying putting her in this Noah." I said to him. "I'll cry with you baby." He replied as the door opened. "Guess who's going home today?!" Dr. Steff said as she came in holding Kinnley with a very excited expression. Noah stood up as the doctor handed him our princess.
"Well guys, all the tests came back normal, and I'm happy to say the Beck family is ready to bring their little girl home!" Steff said to us, my eyes welling up with tears as I opened my arms to hug the doctor. "T-thank you so much you're amazing." I said to her. "Oh sweetheart you did amazing.. I'm so glad I was able to spend these last 9 months helping you along this journey." She added. "I'll be back in a few minutes alright." She whispered closing the door gently behind her.
I looked over to see Noah glaring down at his daughter, admiring all her features. "You're so pretty, just like your mama." He said to her. Noah gently laid her down on a blanket and began changing her into the outfit from earlier. The little squeals she makes are so precious, my heart melts. I leaned over and picked her up, setting her in the middle of my chest as I put her blanket overtop. The doctor came in one last time to cut her bracelets off which meant this was it.
"We're gonna take you home princess." Noah said while loosening the straps on Kinnley's car seat. "Babe am I gonna hurt her?" Noah asked. concern in his voice. "No baby.. she might cry but you're not hurting her I promise." I replied. He gently grabbed her and started placing the straps around her shoulders, an instant cry coming right from Kinnley. "Shhh you're ok honey." Noah said while placing the pacifier back in her mouth. She began to quiet down and fall back asleep.
I was strong enough to walk to the car, and so I did. hand in hand with my husband who was carrying out the car seat which had our first little one inside. "I'm so proud of you Dixie. Thank you for this wonderful gift you have no idea how special it is." He said to me. "I love you." I replied back. "Do you want to sit up here with me or back with the baby?" He asked closing the left passenger door. "I'll stay back with her just in case." I answered.
We began our journey home. The three of us together, safe and sound.
About 15 minutes in Kinnley started crying. I put her pacifier back in but she spat it out seconds later. "Shh you're ok, don't cry baby." I said holding her hand with my finger. Her cries got louder as we approached a red light. "Babe are we close to home?" I asked him still trying to sooth the baby. "We still have 20 minutes Dix." He replied. "I shouldn't take her out because it's not safe but she won't calm down." I said to Noah waiting for his response. "Baby i'll drive slow I promise. Just take her out and feed her, I'm sure she'll fall asleep again." He exclaimed.
I unbuckled Kinn's seat and took her out laying her down in my lap. "Mommy's here you're ok sweetheart." I told her while rubbing her tummy. I moved out of the middle seat and sat behind the passenger side. The cries quieted down to a whine as she began nursing. "Shhh calm down." I said holding her hand. She fell asleep in minutes, me moving her back into her car seat as gently as I could.
We arrived at home shortly after and I was thrilled. My family was already there as they had been organizing all morning for us. I picked up Kinnley, laying her on my upper chest as she cuddled into me. Noah had a couple bags in one hand as he helped me up the stairs with the other. I opened the door very slowly and to my surprise see 3 very special people sitting on the couch.
