~ continued from part 15 ~Dixie's POV-
"Welcome home!!" was all I heard as we stepped through the doorway. My whole family looking more than excited to see us. "Babe look at the balloons." Noah said, as I turn around and to my eyes see a whole set up with light pinks and whites.
"Awe this is so sweet, Thank you guys!" I said keeping my tone down. Noah helped me sit down on the couch, and the rest of my family followed into the living room. "Dixie can I hold her honey?" My mom asked. "Of course mom." I replied handing Kinnley off as carefully as I could.
The three of them sat on the couch across from Noah and I, my mom instantly started to cry as she admired her first ever granddaughter who was sleeping in her arms. Charli and my dad couldn't stop smiling, and it made me so emotional.
"Hi sweet princess, I love you." My mom said, as she slightly giggled while wiping her tears away. "She has a lot of your facial features huh Dix." My dad whispered. "She really does. So pretty just like her mama." Noah chimed in and said. I whispered an I love you to him afterwards.
"Can I have a turn Dix?" Charli asked me, looking at both Noah and I for approval. "Of course Char, you don't need to ask." Noah said, a big smile appearing on his face. He loves Charli like a little sister, and treats her like one too. Their relationship is really special, and they are both are so supportive of each other.
My mom handed Kinnley over to Charli, and she began to whine softly. "Shhh you're okay, I'm right here sweetheart." Charli said which then made me start to cry. Seeing my sister with her first niece is adorable. "I'm you're aunty sweet girl, and I love you so much." She spoke to Kinnley, a few tears running down her cheeks.
Noah looked over at me and wrapped his arms around me. "Isn't that the cutest thing baby?" He said, as I continued to wipe the tears that wouldn't stop falling. "She's gonna love Charli so much." I whispered to Noah, him nodding his head in agreement. Charli lifted Kinnley up and laid her on her chest, as she paused to listen to the small noises she'd make. "She's so tiny and fragile oh my." She said kissing the top of Kinnley's head.
My dad took a turn with Kinnley, and yes he did cry. I think we can all agree that today was a pretty emotional day for everyone, but in an exciting way. My mom carried her upstairs, showing us some things they had put together for Noah and I. We really appreciated the help as it made our lives a lot less stressful.
My family stayed over for the afternoon, and I was able to share my labor story as well as some other funny hospital stories that we encountered over the past few days. Charli was obsessed with Kinnley, and to my surprise was actually really good with babies.
I enjoyed the company from my family. The whole hospital setting has always given me some sort of anxiety, especially all the nurses that are really up in your personal space. I was really lucky to have a Doctor who was over the top amazing and definitely made my experience 100x better.Noah's POV-
It's now 7:30 pm. Dixie had gone to lie down a little over an hour ago, and I was just lying on the couch with Kinnley who was sleeping on my chest. I needed to let Dixie sleep, even though she fought me about it. She felt guilty, like she wasn't doing enough but in reality she was doing everything.
This was the least I could do. Dixie carried her for just over 8 months, and now has to feed her from her body every hour or so. I had facetimed a few of our friends just to show Kinnley to them, as we didn't feel fully comfortable having a big group of people here the day we came home. Overtime we'll introduce her to many others, but for now just close family.
I got up from the chair I was in, and quietly walked into the kitchen to grab some water from the fridge. Kinnley started to fuss around in my arms so I grabbed what I needed to, and walked back to the living room sitting back down on the couch. "Sh sh sh, you're ok." I said, cradling the baby. Her head was facing towards my body and it looked like she was trying to latch onto me. I let out a little giggle as I looked around for a pacifier.
I reached over onto the center table and grabbed the one and only pacifier that she likes. She took it right away, but was still whining softly. "I know you're hungry baby, but mommy's not awake yet." I said while patting her back. I then heard footsteps coming in behind me and I turn to see Dixie walk in the room.
"Hi my loves." She said as she sat down beside me. "How was your sleep baby?" I asked her still cradling Kinnley. "It was as good as it could get, but thank you for taking her for a while. How long did she sleep?" Dixie replied. "She slept for most of the time, but she's hungry so I'm guessing that's why she's fussy." I replied, Dixie gently picking Kinnley up.
The room went silent as Kinnley latched onto Dixie, and she let out a sigh of relief. I wrapped my hands around Dixie, and rested my head against hers. We heard Kinnley make some sweet little noises as she ate, which had both of us giggling. "Hey, food hogger." I said, and Dixie laughed in unison with me.
About 20 minutes later, Dixie switched sides so I could now see Kinnley's bright eyes as she looked up at Dixie. "Hi angel, I love you." Dixie said. Moments like this made my heart so full. My two words right here. Kinnley's eyes began to blink slowly, and soon enough she was asleep.
"How do you know when she's finished?" I asked Dixie who was moving the tips of her fingers around on Kinnley's head. "Well right now she's still slowly suckling as you can see her swallowing.. but you just won't feel her suckling anymore. Most times that doesn't happen, and it'll just be very light, but she's still so tiny so feedings won't last as long as a normal newborn." Dixie replied with a smile. This was all new for me.
"I never knew, that's really cool baby. Also please don't feel weird talking about this stuff with me. I'm genuinely curious as to how it all works you know?" I told Dixie kissing her temple. "You don't think it's weird, or gross?" She questioned. "Of course not, you're feeding our child, I think it's amazing." I replied, Dixie smiling at my reassurance.
Dixie's POV-
Noah was quite literally the best husband ever. Just the way he talks and reassures me gives my stomach butterflies. I didn't feel weird talking about how nursing works and everything.. I just know some guys are grossed out by it. Once Kinnley was finished, I brought her back up on my chest and put her blanket over her back.
"I'm still so sleepy, wanna go to bed?" I asked Noah who couldn't stop staring at his daughter. "You don't have to ask me twice." He replied, and we both giggled. Noah turned off all the lights, and brought some of our bags to our room.
As much as I wanted to co-sleep, I wanted to try out the bassinet my family gave us at the gender reveal. It had a few settings on it, so it could swivel or move side to side. Noah was changing Kinnley at the foot of our bed, while I was rummaging through a gift box I had received with handmade swaddles inside.
I decided on one covered in leaves and pink roses which matched the hat she was wearing earlier. Noah handed her off to me, and I spent a good 10 minutes figuring out the proper way to put her in the swaddle. Every brand is so different which makes it a lot harder. I took a few pictures of Noah with Kinnley on his lap as they both looked so calm and peaceful. These two seriously melt my heart. "Noah do you want to make me cry?" I asked him and he could see my eyes becoming glossy as time went by.
"My love don't cry, here do you want her?" He told me. "No no, I just, you both are so freaking adorable." I replied. He kissed her little nose, and said some very sentimental things which calmed her down. "I love you so much, you're daddy's sweet little angel right?" Noah said to her, and I then had to turn my head away to hide the fact that I was stating to cry.
"Ok, I've cried enough today." I said drying my tears. Noah handed Kinnley to me as I kissed her as softly as I could. "Goodnight sweetheart, mommy loves you." I said slowly and carefully laying her down in the bassinet beside the bed. I then turned off the side lamp and moved closer to Noah. he wrapped his arms around me, and I felt so safe and content. "I love you baby." I said. "I love you way more." He replied. We both fell asleep tangled in each other's arms, feeling nothing but joy, happiness and comfort <3
