The day was calm, throughout Winterfell birds could be heard singing softly, Catelyn had her arm hooked with her husbands, Neds, their first born, Robb and Neds bastard Jon with their wet-nurses. Catetlyns hand rubbed her stomach, the next Stark family was ready to come into the world any minute, the couple talk about their future child, "no, my love, this one will be a boy as beautiful as this day", she gestures to the courtyard, the wind gently pushing the banners.

"No, this one is a girl", he places a hand on her stomach, feeling the baby kick, suddenly the sun shines brighter and a slosh of water can be heard. Ned looks down, now seeing water beneath his wife, "Cat, is the baby coming?", the woman groans, holding her bump, Ned quickly helps her keep standing, telling a woman to go and fetch the maester.

"Ned, he's coming now", she groans again, now the entire courtyards attention is on her, "right now", the maester appears and together, with some house guards, they try and get the woman to her room.

In her room, the woman doesn't push long, the baby coming out of her healthy and happy, big blue eyes shining in the sun, "you were right Cat, he's beautiful", Neds word are full of love and pride, watching his wife hold their new son.

Catelyn looks down to the boy, "you are so calm my little wolf, and you made today so special", she kisses the boy on the head, "Genjo is the perfect name for you", the baby seems to agree, a small smile creeping onto its face, revealing its pink gums.

For the next few days Genjos parents waited for him to cry... or scream or anything, but he didn't make a noise, Maester Luwin had begun to check the baby, the parents watching over him, Robb in their arms, babbling, the balding man looks to his lord, "I believe, my lord, that the child has been born mute"

Catelyns eyes widen, her head snapping to the maester, "mute?, what do you mean, mute?", Luwin sits on the edge of the bed, handing the baby over to his mother.

"He may of been born without the ability to speak, and if it's as severe as I fear, I don't believe he'll be able to make any noise", he watches tears fill Catelyns eyes, "there are ways for him to communicate with us, and we will be able to learn this new language", Ned now looks to the man.

"How? how can he speak without talking?"

Maester Luwin walks to the desk, picking up the book he had been reading, "there is a language that uses hand signs" he shows the pages to the mother and father, "you can both learn and I can teach Genjo, Robb, and any other children you have"

And so the family learnt sign language, once Genjo could walk he picked up a sword, Ned watching him, "and what are you going do with that, little one?", Genjo looks to his father, attempting to hold the blade up, Ned approaches his silent son, "if you're going to fight, do it properly-" he begins to move the boys fingers, "-hold it like this, the blade needs to be an extension of your arm", Ned stays with his son, teaching him the basics of fighting, and he smiles, wide and true. For the longest time Ned thought his son wouldn't be able to make it in the world, his muteness being a large handicap, but as he helps his son now, he can already tell that the boy will do great things.

When Genjo reaches 12, he was already the best swordsmen out of his brothers, Jon and Robb, and their fathers ward, Theon Greyjoy, was jealous of the boys archery skills. He stands, watching his brothers train, twirling his two new daggers in his hands, over the years he has grown to be very handsome, sharp features and captivating azure eyes.
