The missing piece

Chapter 4

Matthew's pov

After we went downstairs, Rowan went to his office to finish some stuff up. And Joseph came up to me.
"Hey baby, can I ask you a question?"
"Of course, what ever you need."
I don't know why but he looked kind of unsure if he should ask the question or not.
"Could you maybe get some information on Alexander?"

"Did Rowan tell you to ask or is this coming from you?"
"From me. I know what your thinking but I just feel uneasy with someone in our house that we know nothing about."

I totally get where he was coming from but at the same time if Alex is the one we were looking for all this time, I don't know if I would feel good invading his privacy like that.

Joseph and Rowan can read me like a book so I wasn't surprised when Joe knew what I was thinking.
"I don't think you have to worry about that. If he is the one then he will get, that in this line of work we have to be careful. And if he's not and he is a threat, then we did the right thing."

"You really think he's a threat? Did you not see how terrified he was when he realized who we were?!"
"Matt, you have to calm down. I wasn't saying he is, I just don't want you guys to be in danger, okay?" I nod.

I knew I was overreacting but we have been waiting a long time for our last soulmate and I just can't help it but to hope that we finally found him.
Most of the time it's always Joe who predicts that they aren't the one so I will just have to trust him.

"Can we still maybe ask Rowan first. Before we just go and find out everything about Alexander."

He gave me a kiss on the forehead.
"Yeah sure, what ever you want." I was glad that he said that. I would feel guilty if we didn't get Rowan involved.

We were waiting on the bed for Rowan to be done with work, when he walked through the door.
"Hey, it's late why aren't you guys asleep yet?"
He gave us both a quick peck on the cheek before going into the closet to change. He came out with a pair of sweatpants and no shirt. Like always he didn't make it easy for me to concentrate. Luckily for me Joseph spoke up.

"Me and Matt wanted to ask you if it would be okay for Matt to look up some stuff about Alexander?"

"Yeah, I feel like that's a good idea, just to be sure who we are dealing with."

Why do they both think that adorable young man could be a threat to us. Out of us three I'm the best judge of character and I would've warned them if I sensed something wrong.
"Why do you both think he's going to attack us? He seems harmless to me."

This time Rowan answer my question.
"We just want to be sure. He probably is harmless but if there is even the slightest possibility he is trying to hurt us, we have to be prepared. You know how this works babe, we've been over this." He strokes my cheek.

I knew that but sometimes I would like to get to know people the normal way and not by invading their privacy. And that's what I told them but of course I still was going to do it because in the end of the day Rowan was right. I don't want them to possibly get hurt.

So I got on my computer and searched for everything about Alexander White.
It was going to take awhile to get everything so Rowan and Joe were sitting beside me watching TV.

To say I was shocked by what I found would be an understatement. I was going through the last few things when Joe and Rowan started rubbing my thighs.
"We can see that you're upset. What is it?"

I knew they were trying to distract me but I had to tell them what I found.
I think they were starting to get worried because they sat up and turned towards me.

"Well... Alex has been through more then you would think." They didn't say anything, I knew they wanted me to continue.

"So Alexander White was adopted when he was two. The orphanage wasn't great, it was shut down a few years after he was adopted because the kids were locked in a shed for day on end without food or anything."
"Wow, it's great that they shut it down."
At first glance you wouldn't believe it, but Joseph is a softie. His parents didn't treat him well, so he always feels for those who went through the same.

"He was adopted by Olivia and Darek White. When he was five his parents turned to drugs and they were barely home. Once he turned eleven, he was checked into the hospital at least twice a month for "falling down the stairs" or "being clumsy"."

Now Rowan was the one to say something.
"You don't believe that do you? That's why you were upset. You think his parents beat him."

"Well isn't it obvious?! I mean you don't get broken ribs, multiple bruises on the face, arms and around the neck from being clumsy."
Do they really think I'm overreacting or are they just making sure I'm thinking the same as them?

Joseph slowly took the laptop out of my hand and read through the hospital files. I thought he was going to be mad but he looked sad and even disappointed.

"We have to help him. First he gets abused by his family and now his boyfriend. He needs to know that this isn't normal. You guys heard what he said, he would go back to that shit little boyfriend of his." You could hear the pain in his voice. Joe has told me exactly what he's been through and I think this is hitting a little too close to home because he's had similar bruising to the ones Alexander has had. Seeing the photos in the medical reports of Alexander isn't making this better for him. While he was talking he hasn't looked away from them.

Rowan slowly took the laptop out of Joe's lap, moved over to him and wrapped his arms around his shoulders.
"It's okay, we'll help him, but only if he'll take it. We can't force him to do anything. He obviously knows who we are and given the chance he will most likely want to leave."

"But we can't just let him go back. He could die." I know we can't just force him but on the other hand he's safer here. Wow, this is the first time I wanted a stranger to stay at our house.

"Do you want him to stay so bad because you want to help him or because you think he is our soulmate?" Of course Rowan had to bring that up.

"Why can't it be both?"
"Because you shouldn't help him just because you think he is our soulmate, you should help him because it's the right thing to do and you really shouldn't get your hopes up. We've been looking for our soulmate for a long time, so it can be easy to think that the next person with multiple soulmates could be ours."

"I know that. But I got a similar feeling towards him then I did before I found out you guys were my soulmates. And you know for a fact I would help him even if he isn't our soulmate."
Not gonna lie I was a little offended that he thought I wouldn't help Alexander if there wasn't the possibility that he is the one we've been looking for.

"Baby, I know I'm just saying." He started kissing my neck. I gladly let him and leaned to the side so he could get better access. I was about to pull at his shirt when he stopped me.
"We should get to sleep it's late. We need energy for tomorrow." He's always such a tease. But I know what he's talking about.

So we decided we would talk to Alexander about everything in the morning. For his safety, I hope he stays. I know we could help him. He just has to look passed our jobs and see that we are trying to help and that this is the safest place he could be.
I don't know why but I'm 98.9% sure he is the one we're looking for. But I really hope I'm not wrong.
