... Both girls screamed. Then the bear stood up on its hind legs and screamed too. The fire on the stick Mare was holding burned out quickly, so instead of flailing the fire around to scare the creature, she hit it on the head.

"Owwww!!!" The furry animal moaned, he held his head with his paws. "What did you do that for? I came to help you both!"

"You can talk?!" Mare asked, quite stunned.

Christina instantaneously laughed, Mare turned and looked at her with a perplexed expression.

"I thought I was hallucinating about the bear being able to talk."

"Well your not..." The light blonde looked away from Christina and gave her attention back to the animal in front of her, "so, you're not going to hurt us?"

Mare still held the stick in her hand, she didn't exactly trust the creature.

The animal cowered and shook its head, "No. I promise. Please put the stick down, my lady."

Mare sighed out of exhaustion, her mind going into overload. What would happen next?

The girl put the stick down on the ground slowly, then she stood up straight and looked directly at the bear.

"Ok Bear...wh..." Mare began to ask but was cut off by the furry beast.

"First off, I have a name."

"What is it, then?"

The bear stood up on its hind legs and put a paw on his chest, he then cleared his throat.

"My name is Ruffles, what is yours?" He asked as he extended his paw out for Mare to shake.

With hesitation, the astonished girl shook it and answered Ruffles, "I... I... my name, my name is Mare and this is Christina."

"How do you do, Mare and Christina." Ruffles walked over to Christina and reached out his paw for her to shake as well.

Christina didn't hesitate, she shook it. A massive smile crossed her face, she never thought in a million years she'd be shaking hands with a bear.

"We'll, you see, Mr. Ruffles..."?

"Just call me Ruffles, no, Mr." he told Christina with a soft smile.

"Ok, Ruffles... I hurt my ankle and can't walk." Christina finished.

The animal gasped and landed on his front paws again, "Oh dear, that is a problem. You can come back with me to my home. I got a nice fire place and food."

"You live in a house?" Mare asked, she was surprised, but then again she wasn't.

Ruffles nodded, "Doesn't everyone?"

"No...no, not exactly." Mare told him, "Wait, where are we?"

"The Lamp Waste." He replied, looking at the lamppost above them.

Mare shook her head, "No, I mean country?"

"Oh, Narnia."

"Narnia? What's that?" Christina asked as she shifted in her seat.

The bear chuckled, "Only the greatest land in the world! Where are you two from?"

"London. I suppose you haven't been there?" Mare asked, already knowing her answer.

Ruffles shook his head, "No, but our kings and queens have. Come with me and I will take you to them tomorrow!"

"No, we can't." Mare said, as she stroked the fire with her stick, it was already dwindling.
