(So! Hello! It's been about 5 months since I updated. I'm really sorry about that! I was going through a pretty major decline in my mental health and had to take a breather to get back on my feet. If you're still reading this, I just want you to know that if there's an extended period of time between uploads, then it's not me abandoning this fic! I have a, for lack of a better term, complicated home life and there are periods of time when I can't upload. Thank you for your patience and hopefully your understanding! ALSO 3.1K READS!! THANK YOU GUYS!! I hope you enjoy this chapter! I love you and I hope you have a lovely day/night ! <3)
Surprisingly, Tengen was alone today.
"Where's Kyojuro?"
"You know that thing every once in a while where he goes kinda AWOL on us?"
"Ah," he hummed. That had happened a few times. Kyojuro would ghost everyone for a few days, only to reply pretty much the day he decided to reintegrate himself back into society. He would outright refuse to acknowledge it or change the subject if it was brought up in conversation. A few times, when Tengen or himself tried to bring it back up, he would pull a tense smile and look at them with that glint in his eyes that said drop it.
"So he hasn't been responding to you?"
Tengen hesitated, then said "Well, he only answered like one of my texts. I asked him if I should take him some medicine, you know, cause he looked like he wasn't feeling well when I took him home last night and he said no, it's fine. Repeatedly. Emphatically." Tengen pressed his lips into a tight line and pulled his phone out of his pocket, in too shitty of a mood to want to say anything beyond that, and Sanemi finds that he doesn't feel like dealing with the grumpiness. He's surprisingly quiet now that there was no one to be an idiot with him, so Sanemi also finds that it's surprisingly easy not to focus on it.
Sanemi quickly pushes that to the back of his mind and opens his messages with Giyuu. He'd asked when he'd got up if Giyuu had eaten yet. That said, Giyuu didn't really seem like the type to be awake anytime before 11 am. Thus, he was still awaiting a response.
He shoved his phone back in his pocket as Obanai shuffled up to the row they sat in, glancing from Tengen to Sanemi a few times. Sanemi shrugged his shoulders and whispered "Kyo's sick."
Obanai seemed to get the message and turned to the front without another word.
The lecture had gone normally. Some boring shtick about an upcoming project that Sanemi probably should've listened to but foolishly chose not to and a notice about classes being cancelled Monday through Wednesday the next week. As everyone was packing up, Sanemi checked his phone to see he had finally got a response from Giyuu.
Giyuu Tomioka: Yes.
you: thats good
get to class on time
God, he felt so unbearably awkward.
He got up and walked out with Obanai, Tengen trailing behind them slightly. He was once again being uncharacteristically silent, eyes clouded over like he was thinking hard about something. He wasn't paying attention to much of anything, which wasn't exactly ideal in a hallway crowded with people.
Obanai split off from them, mumbling about attending his next lecture. Now Sanemi was left to awkwardly walk next to a clearly uninterested Tengen. After minutes of walking and uncomfortable silence, Tengen finally speaks up.
"So, how's it, uh... going with Tomioka?"
Sanemi allows himself a second to panic and then takes a breath. "As well as it can be, considering I saw him for the first time less than a fucking week ago."
