Witches Among Humans

Prologue

**At the Owl House**

Luz had just turned three and she wanted to go exploring, so she decided to go into the woods, despite her mother telling her not to. Her mother was a wild witch and Luz was training hard to be a master of all types of magic. Luz walked outside with a satchel waving to Hooty as she left the Owl House. She walked through the woods for around 15 minutes, before she sat down under a tree and started eating the snacks she had packed herself. She had just taken then first bite, when someone jumped out of the bushes and sat down next to her "Hiiii" he said happily, Luz blinked in surprise before putting her griffin egg down and waving enthusiastically "Hi! I'm Luz!!" the boy smiled but didn't introduce himself, and Luz didn't seem to notice. The boy was slightly older than her, and had very light blonde hair. They both decided to play tag and Luz was it first, the boy ran into the bushes and climbed a tree. Luz ran after him, and used a plant spell to reach the boy in the tree and tag him, the boy grumbled and climbed down the tree. Luz sent her vines back down to the ground, as she ran away from the boy. She stumbled through the undergrowth running as fast as she could, looking behind her for the boy. She wasn't really paying attention to what was in front of her so she didn't notice the person standing in front of her and ran right into them. "oh! Sorry" Luz said pushing herself of the ground, she looked up at the person she'd bumped into, it was a tall man with hair similar to the boy's but he had blue eyes, different to the boy's. The man seemed very mad, Luz was a little scared. The boy came running into the clearing a little after Luz, he was smiling, but his smile immediately dropped upon seeing the man "We are leaving." the man said his jaw clenched as he picked the boy up roughly and walked away. The boy walked sadly to Luz over the man's shoulder, and Luz returned the wave, but with a smile, the boy grimaced in response and with that the boy and the man were gone, Luz hadn't even gotten his name. Luz decided to go back home, so she walked back through the forest and arrived back home to her mum. "Hi Mami can we play Hexes Hold 'em?" Luz asked walking into the house, she looked at her mum and she sighed "Alright then, c'mon Luz" 

*2 hours later*

"I win Mami!!" Luz said enthusiastically "Aw yeah, good job Luz!-" her mum started but got interrupted by a knock on the door "oh, Luz I need you to go the attic and wait until I come back, ok? we can watch a movie together!" Luz clapped happily and started running upstairs, but her mum stopped her, and pulled her into a hug "I love you, so much Luz" and Luz hugged her too "I love so much Mami!!" and then her mum let her go and Luz ran upstairs into the attic. Luz didn't much but she heard a voice that seemed vaguely familiar and she heard he mum crying, Luz couldn't understand why though. After a few minutes there was silence and she heard the door close, so she got up and walked downstairs. "Mami?" she called out, no reply. "...Mami...?", still no reply. "Mami?!" Luz called, running outside and looking around "MAMI??" there was still no reply. Even though Luz was only three, she seemed to understand what had happened. She ran into the forest, crying. Until she fell into a hole and landed in a cave, she let out a little squeal, and heard a small whimper. Luz got up and brushed herself off "hello?" she moved towards the noise and then she heard it again. She walked around a corner and saw two things, the first being her mother's palisman and the second a little more shocking, it was a small black animal with a part missing from one of it's antlers. "Hello there little guy..."
