Chapter 2: Live or Die
Where am I? Tommy sat up on unfamiliar ground, his mind foggy and a splitting headache piercing his brain.
He looked around, noticing the exotic, green foliage surrounding him on all sides. Small, colorful bugs of all shapes and sizes scattered by and flew around as a bright red bird passed overhead. Also above him, was the faint outline of a portal, which dissipated before his eyes.
I've never been here before.. Tommy thought. He stood and stretched, trying to remember how he ended up in the middle of a forest. Quickly, he realized, I've never been.. anywhere before.. He couldn't recall anything. Not his home, not his friends, not his parents, if he had any of those things. All he knew was his name was Tommy Innit and he was 17 years old. Well, that and the fact that he had never been in this jungle before, but he couldn't be 100% sure of that.
He took a hesitant step forward, afraid that this rainforest was just an illusion and he would fall into a trap, but who would do that? Why did he get that thought? Tommy couldn't place it.
After realizing nobody was fooling him, and not knowing where to go, he decided to just walk straight ahead. There were no telltale signs of civilization or any people at all, so there wasn't much else he could do.
So he walked, despite the sticking humidity, for a few minutes before noticing his clothing. It seemed different than what he would normally wear, or what he thought he would wear anyways. He seemed to particularly enjoy the color red, based on what he'd seen of it so far.
He was in a simple cream colored shirt with puffy sleeves, brown, loose pants, black pirate boots, and a dark brown belt which held a sword-sheath.
In the sheath was an obviously heavy blade, based on how he kept leaning to the right as he walked.
No wonder I feel lopsided. Tommy grabbed the hilt of the sword and pulled it out. Was this my sword? Did I find it? Is it stolen? He wished he could answer his own queries, but then again; he couldn't remember.
He examined it, a simple, straight, silver, double-edged blade with a diamond on the hilt. As he shifted it around in his hand, he found that it felt pretty comfortable in his grip.
After playing around with it for a minute, and almost chopping one of his fingers off, Tommy sheathed it. "I don't need that right now." He mumbled, continuing his walk.
Eventually, he saw an opening in the thick trees. His heart leaped in his chest, realizing he could finally figure out what the hell was going on. He jogged towards it, hoping to maybe see his home and remember whatever he had forgotten about his life so far. Or.. at least he hoped to see someone, anyone who could help him.
Alas, there was nothing but a medium sized patch of open sand next to crystal clear water. Just a simple beach. Not a single person or a single sign of any person in sight. Tommy sighed dejectedly and looked out to the water. Hopeless... His sky blue eyes flicked up to the horizon when he saw it.
Maybe I'm not alone. In plain sight was the most beautiful pirate ship, made from a dark wood, docked just a bit off shore. The cream-colored sails billowed in the wind, but the ship stayed put, its anchor firmly dug in the seabed. There didn't seem to be anyone on board, so Tommy decided to investigate.
