The End Of My World

Chapter 8

   As I'm waiting for Dawson to come back home from work. I made the decision to call my parents. I had the phone in my hand but I was too scared to call. But I somehow sucked in all the fear and called them.

   Caroline: Mom?

   Caroline's Mom: Caroline?

   Caroline: Yeah Mom, It's me.

   Caroline's Mom: I really don't feel like speaking to you right now.

   Caroline: Look Mom, just hear me out, I've changed.

   I think those words might have struck a nerve for my Mother or something because she hung up the phone. She must really hate me right now. Which in all honesty, I completely understand why. It's gonna take some time for her to forgive what I did, and I get that. As I was still holding the phone in my hand, Dawson walked through the front door. It's been another two months since he came home with blood covering his eye. But today, he had a busted lip. I was done with trying to make him feel happy, I wanted to know what had happened. I walked up to him with a demanding look on my face. 

   Dawson: It's complicated Caroline.

   Caroline:  What's so complicated that I can't know about it?

   Dawson:  You just don't understand-

   Caroline:  Then make me understand!

   Dawson: Fine. I work for a man named Marco. He's not a good man. 

   Caroline: You work for him doing what?

   Dawson: It's complicated-

   Caroline: I don't want to hear that anymore! Just tell me!

   Dawson: We help people commit robberies.

   Caroline: What?

   I couldn't believe the words that had just come out of his mouth. The same mouth that kisses me goodnight. Was he insane? Helping people commit robberies? I guess it wasn't as bad as I was making it out to be, but still, it was pretty serious. 

   Dawson: Like I said, It's complicated. There was a misunderstanding at work and I got punched again. Just try not to worry about it too much okay?

   Caroline: How can I not worry? Your job is illegal Dawson! How am I supposed to just be okay with that? 

   Dawson: I know, I don't expect you to support this, but I'm asking you to. I love you.

   Did he just tell me that he loved me? 

   Caroline: I love you too, I completely get it. I'm not mad about it or anything. Just do what you have to do.

   Dawson: Thank you for understanding, I know It's a lot to take in.

   He loves me. He really loves me. As soon as he said those words, I completely got over the whole robbery job. All that I could focus on was being loved by him.
