Lunch was over and basically so was my freedom. My next class was my least favourite, science. I was really good at science and was one the best in my class but somehow I just didn't enjoy it.
I took a seat in the back away from everyone else. None of my friends were in this class anyways. Three seats away I spotted Ash who, like me, also sat in the back.
Mr. Jackson was assigning partners for this semester in a monotone voice. He was by far my least favourite teacher. In fact most of the students didn't think fondly of him.
" Cassie and Maggie." He continued unenthusiastically. " Parker and Conor." The two boys jumped up and gave each other high fives. "Tristan and Elizabeth, Lily and Ash..."
He kept on pairing people up but I wasn't listening.
ME AND ASH?! The super cute super mysterious new boy? I couldn't believe my luck today.
I hadn't had a crush since fourth grade. But then again back then I thought the guys in my school were cute. And some were, truly! But... None of them were my type. I wondered if Ash was my type... Snap out of it Lily! Don't get distracted by some boy! In all the love books the girl always falls in love, the boy rejects her and then apologizes and everyone is happy. But I don't want to be rejected. Just the thought of it makes me sad... But he makes me feel different...Just concentrate and ignore it.If I can...
The class then arranged the desks so that two desks would be right next to each other. "Go find your partner, sit with them and open your textbooks to page five." Mr.Jackson said while giving us a if you don't do it there'll be trouble look.
I took my seat as Ash slid into the seat next to mine. He glanced at me for a second, then wordlessly opened up his textbook and found the right page.
Mr.Jackson quickly explained the lesson, then handed out the worksheets.
Ash looked the worksheet over several times before a very quizzical expression appeared on his face. "Umm do you understand this?" I asked because it was quite obvious he didn't. "Uh,not really..." His husky yet soothing voice gave me butterflies.
I smiled. "Here I'll show you." I was glad I could help. "How do you know all this?" He asked, a stunned expression on his face.
I shrugged. A small grin forming on my face. "I'm pretty good at science... But I don't like it too much." He looked at me with an approving expression on his face. With his new found science information he completed the rest of the worksheet fairly quickly. I raised my hand. "Mr.Jackson what do we do when we're done? "Something! Anything!"He said, clearly already in a bad mood.
"So Ash how come you aren't being homeschooled anymore?" I asked trying to get a conversation started. "Because I've learned everything I needed to know." Desperate to keep a conversation going, I fired more questions at him. "Are you going to try out for any school activities?" I asked. "That perked him up. "Any that include running." He replied. "Cool,I'm in the drama club and in badminton.
The bell rang suddenly, abruptly ending our conversation. "Class dismissed, see you all tomorrow." Mr.Jackson said. He didn't sound too exited for tomorrow.
Ash handed in his worksheet, picked up his things, and walked out the door without a backwards glance.
