CH 2 | Meeting His Parents

Rina Mei Zu (female lead) POV:

I was woken up this morning by one of my maids. She told me, the emperor had already gone to the morning court. My new maid was named yanzi or at least I had called her that.

After yanzi helped me get dressed, she brought me breakfast. I insisted on her dining with me, but she insisted that it wasn't proper.

"When does the morning court usually end?" I asked, only wanting ti know when I would see my husband again.

"Silly Rina!" I thought to myself. Even when all the court matters have beeb settled, the Emperor still has many other duties he needs to fulfill. Which makes seeing me only possible in the evening, or if we visit his parents.

"Madame" yanzi repeated, waking me up from thought.

"As I was saying your Highness, today you must visit your Husband's parents and the Empress Dowager."

I quickly nodded. And hurriedly walked towards the door. But yanzi stopped me before I could leave.

"Madam, in the palace of phoenix you must follow certain rules especially in front of the dowager Empress. So please never run in front of her."

I nodded understanding what she had said, but uncertain of the other etiquette I needed to follow.

In the fire kingdom we of course had the basic etiquettes which needed to be followed, but also a lot of our own.

Yanzi sighed.

"I will teach you, but you must learn quick"

I only nodded.

"Emperor and Empress please enter!"

One of the eunuchs called.

We both walked towards my parents in law.

"Rina Mei Zu greets your highnesses"

"Father. Mother." My husband said.

"Oh please rise both of you." His mother said.

She told me to come sit beside her as she talked to me.

After she made it clear that I was to treat her like my real mother I felt much more comfortable and quickly loosened up, always throwing a glance over to my husband who was chatting with his father.

After talking for a bit, the Emperor and I, bid farewell and went to pay the Empress Dowager a visit.

We both hadn't said a word to eachother on the way to her palace. I wanted to say things, but he made it clear to stay silent.

We arrived there and once again greeted his family member.

The Empress Dowager seemed to enjoy his presence, but she didn't seem to care much about me. Only throwing a few unpleased glances my way.

Which seemed odd to me, because normally the Empress Dowager would be the one to choose the new Empress, but maybe this wasn't the case.

We walked out of her palace without me saying a word.

"Yanzi!"

"Yes?"

"Escort the Empress back to her Palace" Liu Wan Zu ordered.

I wanted to stay with him, but just bowed and walked back to my room. I wanted so much to stay in his pavillion, but he made it clear to stay seperate.

"Yanzi?" I said.

"Yes?"

"Does the Emperor have any concubines" I asked trying to remain calm.

"No, your Highness. His Majesty has made it clear in the court that he wishes to only have you as his Consort."

"Than why was he being so cold?" I wondered to myself.

"Is there anyone Empress Dowager would wish to be his 2nd Consort?" I asked. This of course would be a reason why empress dowager wouldn't like me.

"Yes Madame. There is his Majesty's cousin, who was promised to him when he was a child, the same as your Highness. She is very much adored by the Empress Dowager and would've married his Majesty if it weren't for you."

Now it made sense. But how come I've never met this cousin before. I knew I had to look into it myself.

It has been so long since I've updated this. I hope this chapter was interesting enough.
I don't have a clear updating schedule so I'll just update when I can.
I'll try to make these chapters longer.
