I sat on Stephen and I's bed admiring the engagement ring he had gotten me. I couldn't believe after three years he had finally proposed to me, I was starting to think he wasn't going to propose at all.
"Abigail," I heard my name being called pulling me out of my daze. I looked up to see Stephen at the door. "People are starting to arrive." He said. I nodded my head and got up off the bed looking down at my ring once more.
"I love it so much." I said walking towards him.
"And I love you," Steph smiled at me. I smiled back up at him leaning up to give him a kiss.
Once we both made it downstairs the party started. We had invited all of our closest friends and family to our engagement party. As soon as we got downstairs we were immediately split up. It seemed that all of my girlfriends had pulled me over to them while the boys pulled Stephen over to them.
"Let me see the ring," His mom spoke up first. I put my hand out and everyone gathered around to look at it. Everyone ooh'd and ah'd at how nice the ring was.
"Damn that's a huge rock." I rolled my eyes ignoring my friend's comment.
"I'm so happy my baby is finally getting married." My mom squealed excitedly pulling me in for a hug. I hugged my mother back, "I'm happy too."
She pulled away from the hug looking me in the eyes, "I'm not trying to rush you guys or anything, but I'm ready for some babies." I chewed nervously on my lower lip. Stephen and I hadn't even begun talking about kids yet.
"I second that notion," Stephen's mom said agreeing with my mom.
"With kids on the way you guys should really consider moving. Your house is cramped." My aunt interjected inviting herself to come sit with us.
I became flustered. I felt as if the room was getting smaller and hotter. "We haven't even talked about having kids yet." I said.
"We are only getting older you guys need to be talking about kids and having kids soon." My mom gave me a look saying she wasn't joking around. Stephen's mom was shaking her head in agreement with my mom.
"Are you guys even ready to get married? Stephen travels a lot how do you know he's not cheating on you at away games?" One of my closest friends spoke up.
"Basketball players are known for their cheating." My other friend agreed with her.
"Stephen would never cheat on me," I said as calmly as I could. Everyone was starting to get annoying and invasive making me uncomfortable.
"You never know that you're not at any away games with him. He could have another women and you wouldn't even know." My aunt said with everyone nodding their heads in agreement.
"He wouldn't cheat," I spoke more firmly this time, although now I had my doubts about how faithful Stephen really was.
"That's what everyone says until they get cheated on." My friend said, everyone once again agreeing with her.
I could not believe how everyone was acting right now. No one had ever said anything about Stephen cheating until he proposed to me.
I looked across the room to see Stephen eyeing me with concern. "You okay?" He mouthed to me. I shook my head 'no'. He walked over to the back door and gave me a nod to follow him.
"Excuse me, but I need to use the bathroom." I lied getting up. All of the girls seemed to be in their own conversations and not paying attention to me making it easy for me to sneak out.
"What's wrong, Abigail?" Stephen asked as soon as I made it outside.
"Everyone's just stressing me out. I thought they'd be happy for us, but everyone just seems to want us to be miserable." I spoke. Steph grabbed my hand and lead me onto the sidewalk out front.
"They probably just want what's best for you." He spoke rubbing his thumb soothingly over my hand.
"Then why can't they just let me be happy with you," I complained.
He chuckled at my silliness and lead us down to the neighborhood park. "It'll be alright."
We walked over to the swings and once I was on one Stephen started to push me. We were both silent, but a question kept lingering in the back of my mind.
"You wouldn't ever cheat on me, would you?" I asked nervously. Stephen stopped pushing me immediately and came to stand in front of me.
"Never would I ever think about cheating on you. There is nobody in this world that could ever make me do something as stupid as cheating to make me lose you. You are the most beautiful girl in the world, no other girl has anything on you. I love you so much, Abigail, don't you ever think that I would cheat on you."
"Aw, I love you." I sobbed standing up to hug him. He chuckled kissing the top of my head.
"I love you too." He whispered as if it was a secret only for me to hear. He had started to sway us back and forth and hummed a soft tune in my ear. I sighed in content swaying along with Stephen.
"Stephen?"
"Yes, my dear?" He asked.
"Do you want kids?" I asked quickly hoping that my feelings would not be hurt and he would want kids.
He stopped us from swaying and looked down at me, "of course I want kids, you want kids too don't you?"
I smiled and nodded my head. He smiled back at me before leaning down to kiss me.
"Aren't they just the cutest?" Stephen and I pulled away from the kiss to see his mother and brother. I smiled shyly at them while Stephen laughed.
"It's time for you guys to come back we want cake," Stephen's brother spoke making us all laugh.
"We're coming," Stephen spoke letting his mother and brother walk back.
He turned towards me. "I love you, Abigail soon-to-be Curry and don't you forget it." He spoke one last time before leading us back to our house.
