Working with Spam and Vanexa as main characters was way more fun than I thought it'd be. Spam's goofball personality kept me chuckling to myself as I wrote his parts, and Vanexa's dull, straightforward demeanour was easy to build upon because I used to act like that when I was younger (back in my emo days, don'tchya know). In fact, I drew from my own personality to build on both of theirs, because I also have a silly side like Spam. So it was great to write parts for characters with whom I could relate.
This story also gave me a chance to introduce a concept I've been wanting to bring into the "P O W E R" series for a while: the S.H.A.F.T. They'll be expounded upon in the future, but the gist is that they're a group of Havenites that want things to go back to the way they used to be—by any means necessary. It's an interesting concept, I think: a rebellion against Xirxine, whom the S.H.A.F.T. view as a sort of "evil empire".
Also, you might recognize Bog (their leader) as one of the Havenites torched by Guardian in "L E G E N D S". Just a little Easter Egg there. And another thing: Spam made a passing reference to something called the "Lovers' Society". They'll be covered in the story after next.
You may have also noticed that Cthylla and Fisi are suddenly working together. "When?", you ask? "How?", you ask? "Why?!", you ask? "You'll see," I answer.
And then of course, there's that cameo of Addison swinging through the city on tentacles like Spider-Man (or Venom, I guess). "What? He's back?" you exclaim. "When did that happen?!" My answer remains the same. Stay tuned.
Okay, time for the preview for the next installation in the series! We're getting back to the main storyline and dipping our toes into a new cast of characters. It's time to see what Mr. Delvis Billiard has been up to since he lost his betrothed to the claws and jaws of the Devourer.
