"Ancient Greece was the beginning of Western Civilization. See, in Greece, they didn't have professional sports...or Wheaties boxes. So the athletes competed for another reason- Anybody?"
"Falafels?"
- "Ohh. Greg."
- "You wish, Goldberg."
- "Charlie?"
- "Pride."
"That's right. The various city-states waved their flags and wore their home colors proudly." She smiled as she explained. "Did America always dominate?""That's a good question" dean said backing up Fulton. "No. America wasn't around back then. It's okay, it's okay, don't forget that compared to other countries America is still young, still forming its own identity. America is a teenager just like you."
"Like us?" Jesse asked in curiosity "you bet, a little awkward at times but always there, on the verge of greatness"

~ Three, four ~And before they knew it they were heading off to Los Angles for the Junior goodwill games. River sat between Adam and Charlie they actually had a good time together. They chatted at first and made small talk, moving on to home life and stupid jokes and remarks coming from Riv, what Adam called her, Charlie called her Rory, she liked it.
After sitting in a bit of awkward but still comfortable silence "hey why don't we watch a movie" Charlie suggested "it'll make the time go by" "why not" "yeah" the two teens agreed and they all started to watch "Heathers" it was one of the only good things on the plane screen. As the movie went on the miles did to. Sooner or later they arrived in LA.
"Welcome to Los Angeles, California, and the Junior Goodwill Games as teams from around the world arrive to compete in both winter and summer events. The U.S.A. is expected to score well in the medal count, especially in basketball, swimming and hockey. And there's Team U.S.A. hockey led by Coach Gordon Bombay. They're looking fit and anxious to begin the competition." The announcer introduced the USA hockey team as they walked down into the stadium.
"Tonight's game matches the second-seeded Team USA against the tenth-seeded team, Trinidad Tobago. This marks the first game for U.S.A. in this double-elimination winner-take-all tournament. Gordon Bombay looks to have his team well in control here. They lead six to nothing. This is sewn up tight!"
"All right! Yeah!"the team cheered from the praise of the announcer "Yeah, high-five some more. Man, my little brother could score on these guys." Some guy in the stands said. "Why don't you go bother him then." "Ha-ha! i ain't even got a little brother!"
"Hey,Jesse! Quit gabbin' and get on the ice, show me you want it, son. Go!" Coach yelled and got the two boys to shut up, well almost. "Yeah, show us you want it son. Go!" The same guy from the stands repeated mockingly, until Coach gave his a small glare "Kay" Said the guy with wide eyes as he walked down the steps.
Jesse and some guy on the other team started the face off. As the game started Jesse found something to be mad about "Hey, what's your problem, man?"
"Jesse, forget about it!" Matt said trying to calm him down as the rest of the team waited for something to happen."Let's go!" Shouted the ref and he took Jesse into the box "U.S.A. penalty, number nine, Hall. Two minutes, roughing." "He dissed you bad, G." The same guy shouted teasing Jesse again "Yeah? Come here, man!" "Ha-ha. Bye-bye. Have a nice day."
"All right, Fulton, let's have some fun!" "Yeah, Portman, let's do it!" "All right!" Dean exclaimed one more time before they got on the ice. They started absolutely demolishing the other team and after all that, they thanked the crowd while bowing a few times "Thank you! Thank you" "Thank you. Thank you!" "Look at those guys! Look at 'em! They're the Bash Brothers!" Mr. Tibbles exclaimed from the top of the arena.
"Hey, ya got a girl in the stands?" Asked Charlie. And before Adam answers that question he looked on the ice to see River, she looked good playing hockey(a little intimidating as well)Every time he would be benched and she'd be playing he would watch her, she was good, real good.
He also began to notice small things like her relief every time she would score a goal and that damn smile on her face. You could forget all your worries with it, it's welcoming and extremely contagious.
He looked back into the stands "No. Scouts, man. Look at 'em." "Don't worry about scouts, Adam. Just play your best." Charlie reassured "yeah I guess your right" he said softly looking back at Riv.
"Team U.S.A. loses the puck at center ice blue line, #35 with a great move, skates right down in front. He shoots, he scores!" "Way to go, man! Way to go!" Now the opposite team has a point.
"Nearing the end of the game, U.S.A. with it out at center ice. Here's Connie Moreau. Moreau stick-handling in the Trinidad zone. Moreau still with it, moves around a pileup, gives it to Kenny Wu. Wu, the former figure skater, back behind the net, ducks underneath the check. Moves around the it. It's a wraparound.....He scores!" "All right, way to go!"
"That wasn't a game, that was a statement! Ladies and gentlemen, Team U.S.A. hockey. And the man chosen to lead them to the gold, Gordon Bombay."
"Bring the bear up here, this is Henry, the Hendrix bear." "Hello, everyone!" "Guys, I want you to come in, get some shots with the bear." River and Averman looked at each other trying not to laugh. River whispered a joke into Avermans ear making him, and the people who overheard, Luis, Connie and ken, laugh. Everything went quiet as the cameras focused on them for a while.
"Umm, okay then! Big wave! Big wave! Wave to everybody!" Mr. Tibbles kept pushing "Hello, everybody! it's great to be here!"
"- Got that? Great. Thanks a lot. Okay, we're gonna
open it up to questions," he looked around "Yes." He picked a blonde lady which asked the question "Team U.S.A. how does it feel competing on the international level here in Los Angeles?"In which they replied "feels good" "it's great!" "Lovin' it!" After they said that Averman and River softly sung the McDonald's theme song even adding a few more lyrics of their own, Averman moving his fingers to the beat as River moved her shoulders.
"Coach Bombay, the Vikings from iceland are the heavy favorite. Their coach has already guaranteed victory. How are you gonna handle them?" The lady stated. "Um... hard work, I think our team is ready to go up against the best in the world. We're not worried about 'em. Iceland may be tough, but, uh...we're Team U.S.A. and we're goin' all the way."
This time Averman tip toed and whispered something in Rivs ear, she tried to hold in her laugh but failed and let out a chuckle covering it with her hand and a cough. "Hey you okay?" Matt asked from behind her "yeah, I'm good" she gave him a slight smile in which he returned.
