"Hey team! We're gonna be great today, right?" Tibbles questioned eager for them to be confident in victory. "Where's Gordon?" He asked again. "You tell us" Luis replied also not having a clue. River looked at him then looked at Miss Mackay.

"I don't believe this!" Mr. Tibbles cried out as a ref came by "Team U.S.A. i'm sorry without a coach behind the bench, you'll forfeit the game." "You can't do that" adam remarked obviously not wanting to forfeit.

River gave Charlie a look and nodded her head to Miss Mackay. "We have one!" He smiled at River then skated to Miss Mackay "hey Charlie, what's up?" She greeted him with a small smile "You have to pretend you're our coach or we forfeit the game." "Where's Coach Bombay?"

"Pretend or we're out of the tournament." "But i don't know anything about coaching." River butted in "Here she is, our coach; Coach MacKay." "Yeah." Charlie backed up looking back at Miss Mackay nodding.

"Come on, Coach MacKay." River smiled widely "What are you waitin' for, the ice to freeze? Let's play!" River and Charlie looked at each other and shrugged with a smirk, skating to the ice.

"Face-off at center ice. Germany wins the draw. Comes across the U.S.A. blue line. Germany on the right wing side. Down to big Klaus Stabias. As he's about to shoot River skated in from behind taking the puck from his left side! A great save!"

Skating across the ice she passes it to dean as he checks someone into the board passing to Luis. "Oh! We look tired. We need to, uh... trade places." Miss or should I say Coach Mackay comments noticing the team slowing down.

"What?" Charlie asks looking at Averman with a confused face in which a face Averman gladly returned. "New players." She repeats "Oh, say, Change it up" "Change it up." She says softly "Scream it!" Charlie added "Change it up!" And the old players came in as the new ones went out "Cool."

River still on the ice she decides to take one alone. Tripping a guy with her stick she stole the puck skating quickly around the net and scoring from the side giving the team their first point.

"We're late in the period with a face off coming up." announced the announcer. "Look who finally shows up." "Just ignore him. Averman, take the face-off. All right." "What do we got to lose?" Fulton asked "Respect. He'll dump us the minute it's all over." Dean put out a good point River raised a shoulder nodding in agreement.

"Come on in! Let's go, come on." "Team. Guys. I was wrong. And i'm sorry. i forgot about the team. And the team is all I have. All I want is another chance.
Just one more shot. i'm back. Okay? Believe me."

People gave each other mixed looks especially River and dean. "Together now. Come on, Jesse."
"- Jesse, just do it, man!" Getting back on the ice Jesse yelled "All right, let's go! Flying V!"

River was on the bench allowing her to watch the Flying V for the first time. Matt was looking at her with a visibly dreamy look. Her and Adam were sitting next to each other and he was explaining how it works.

She made a joke causing Matt to look down bushing. Adam laughed with her, she thought he had a cute laugh they looked at each other calming back down. He was mesmerized, her eyes were beautiful she was thinking the exact same thing.

It felt like they were staring into each other's eyes for a while but it was really just a split second.
Buzzz
the buzzer went off indicating they scored.

"i've had a lot of big distractions since i've been here in L.A. This is a distraction." Coach said pointing to cardboard cut out of himself . "Nice haircut, Coach." River chuckled and Averman grinned "Looks familiar, i know that guy."

"This is a fire in a barrel." Coach continues "This is a distraction in a fire in a barrel. Any questions?" "Good job, Coach." "All right!" "Wooo!" "All right, Coach!"

"We've got a lot of work to do. We've gotta study our opponents and study ourselves. We have to learn from our mistakes. You all have special skills. Now we have to refine them."

"Luis, your speed is a great weapon. Now you must learn to harness it." Jan asserted. River was going to help Luis considering they have about the same speed and she can control it perfectly "Let's do it. - Whoa!" Luis fell right when he hit the stack of cans there to help him stop, he looked at River and she gave him an awkward smile.

"We need to get back to basics. That's it. Dwayne, hustle. We're gonna be a lean, mean, fighting machine. Move that big butt. Go!" Coach declared as the team did drills on the ice.

They moved to the gym, running on the treadmills "Hey, how you feelin' today, Goldberg?" Coach questioned hopping on the treadmill with him "Lean and mean."

They were cleaning up in the locker rooms getting ready to go back to the dorms. "Hey, Banks, let's go!" Dean shouted heading out of the locker room waking with the rest of the team
"Comin' i'll be right there." He hesitated, looking around the room and then wraps his wrist up.

"Now just think how you'd play with two good wrists." Coach interrupted "- Coach." Adam said a bit startled "it's just a little sore. i'm okay." He tried to defend his spot "i should have spotted this sooner. Sorry, man, i wasn't doin' my job." "Coach, i'm fine.
I can play, i swear." "Okay. Here. Let's find out." Coach gave him a stick, he holds it with his non injured hand "The other hand. Now rotate it." There was a moment of silence as adam looked like he was gonna cry, he couldn't turn it.

"i have to bench you." "No! You can't do that."
"Adam, you could injure yourself permanently." "You can't bench me. i gotta play. All the scouts are
here watching me. This is my shot." He says as they both sit down "You're young and you're gonna have plenty of shots, believe me." "But my dad's counting on me."

"I'm sorry. Hey. My dad worked a lot when i was a kid. So when he made it to a game I wanted so bad to score 100 goals for him. i spent half the game a nervous wreck, my stomach in knots."  "That's how i feel."

"Before he died, my dad told me that his happiest times were watching me skate on this pond we had behind our house. He didn't need me to score 100 goals for him. He was proud of me 'cause i was his son and i did my best. I'm sure that's how your dad feels. i know it is." "Thanks, Coach."  "All right. Let's go get that wrist X-rayed. Come on."

"Hey are you guys alright?" River came in, spinning around the door frame hanging on to the edge "Charlie wanted to make sure you were coming, you okay banksie?"

Adam's stomach felt a bit tingly at the sound of her raspy voice saying his name "yeah we're all good, right banks" Coach said looking at Adam "y-yeah" looking back at Coach, he got the hint to leave "well I'm gonna go meet the team and let them know you guys are coming" Coach smiled walking out leaving the two teens alone

Adam was clearly tearing up so she just hugged him. He liked it, a lot. It felt real, and good. Like someone really cared about how he felt. "You wanna talk about it? If not that's okay" she comforted. He nodded "can we just stay like this for a while" "yeah of course adam" and that's what they did.
